When the news broke of Netflix's upcoming release of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, I'm pretty sure most of us screamed and jumped for joy. It's been so long since Gilmore Girls ended, and no one was ready for it to happen. However, Netflix became our knight in shining armor and is bringing us back our beloved characters, Stars Hollow and witty conversations on November 25. If you don't hear from me that day, it's because I, like many others, am indulging myself in the new series. It's too important to miss.
One of the memorable parts of the show were Lorelai Gilmore's outfits. There were so many stylish and wacky pieces that appeared throughout the seven seasons. In honor of the upcoming return of Gilmore Girls, I've chosen the five best Lorelai Gilmore outfits to help us reminisce on the good old days and the great ones coming in the near future. WARNING: There might be spoilers if you haven't seen all of GG yet.
1. The very first outfit.
This is our first impression of Lorelai, and so far it's very accurate. She wears a fitted knit beanie that foreshadows the upcoming fall and winter hats and accessories we see later throughout the shows. Her bright pink sweater is pretty subdued compared to future outfits, but enough to show she's bold in her clothing choices. Note the cup of coffee she holds dearly. Yes. An outfit is not complete without coffee for Lorelai Gilmore.
2. Rory's first day of school cowgirl appearance.
Oh laundry day. Sometimes creativity comes in handy when we're out of clothes, but for Lorelai it gets a little wacky. When she's running late to bring Rory to her first day at Chilton, this outfit couldn't reflect Lorelai's crazy day enough. A fitted pink tie dye tee paired with cut off denim shorts and cowgirl boots is certainly a statement outfit. Even when she hides it with her overcoat, the secret is revealed when that's taken away from here at Chilton. The lesson to learn from this episode? ALWAYS have an outfit ready even when all your clothes are at the cleaners or in the laundry. Also, never rely on furry alarm clocks.
3. The 24 Hour Dance Marathon retro look.
For a 24 hour dance marathon, Lorelai looks pretty fabulous for the entire time minus her heel breaking mid way. Even then, Luke comes to the rescue as the handy man with coffee we all need in our lives. This navy and black retro halter dress with its sweetheart neckline looks lovely on Lorelai. Her pinned back curls and bright red lipstick make her look even more like she stepped out of a different time. If only there were a dance marathon we could all go to and dance the night (and day) away while looking this great.
4. The famous pink coat.
Among all the blog posts and articles written on Lorelai's fashion choices, the pink coat is the most famous and the most popular. Lorelai has a lot of coats throughout the seven seasons, but this baby pink and gold button embellished coat wins over all of them. Not only is it very flattering on her, but it reflects her matured style while still being very "Lorelai." There is no doubt this coat is classic even with its pink color. I'm sure some of us GG fans have tried to find this coat, or anything similar to it, online.
5. The wedding dress.
As someone who watches and loves Say Yes to the Dress, I am in love with the dress Lorelai chose for her wedding (I'll leave out details in case some of you are still catching up). This dress represents Lorelai very well, and it's very flattering on her too. The flower appliques decorate the top of the slight sweetheart neckline and bodice beautifully above the sash that accentuates her waist. A drop waist fit shows off her body before flaring out into layers of tulle gathered around the dress. Although many wedding dresses can go out of style easily, this one is timeless for years to come.
