There's nothing I love more than curling up on the couch with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and a Christmas movie during the holiday season. However, it can be quite difficult to pick the perfect one when there are sooo many options out there! So, here I've narrowed it down to my top 5 movies to put you in the spirit of the season...

1) Elf

This modern Christmas classic tells the story of a man who was raised by elves at the North Pole, only to discover that he is actually a human. After coming to this realization, Buddy goes in search of his birth father in New York City. You're guaranteed to get in some good laughs as you watch Buddy try to adjust to the real world, build a relationship with his father, and ultimately save Christmas!

2) Home Alone

When a young boy unknowingly gets left behind when his family leaves for Christmas vacation, he is forced to think fast and come up with creative ways to outsmart a pair of petty thieves until his family returns home.

3) A Christmas Carol

There are many adaptations from the original Charles Dickens story, but my favorite has to be Disney's A Christmas Carol. Although it does have a dark tone, it is one of the best portrayals of Scrooge, and in the end, he embraces and spreads the spirit of Christmas!

4) The Polar Express

Tom Hanks brings to life the story of a young boy who adventures to the North Pole on board a magical train and discovers a belief in magic he didn't know he was missing. *The hot chocolate scene is truly the highlight of this movie!

5) Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone

Although not technically a Christmas movie, this first installment of the Harry Potter series is certainly the most lighthearted and the most magical! Plus, seeing Harry experience his first true Christmas - snow and all - will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside!

Is it time to start making that cup of hot chocolate and deciding on a Christmas movie to watch yet?!

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
