5 Benefits Of Growing Up In A Low-Income Family

From the time I was a baby until I was six years old, I lived with my single mom. My mom met my stepdad when I was six. Then came along my baby sister. We were always the family that had only enough money for the things needed in life. My sister and I seldom were able to get what we wanted or go out. Grocery shopping with our family meant getting nothing more than the necessity items. Growing up like this wasn't always fun, but it taught me many life lessons. All throughout high school I worked, which required juggling things within my life. Out of all the struggles we encountered, I wouldn't have wanted to live any other way. Some of the biggest lessons learned from this lifestyle have made me the person today. Here are some of the lessons living in struggle has taught me.

1. Independence

Having to work in high school, and at most times, having two to three jobs, it was a struggle. This made me grow up and learn to take care of myself. If I wanted something from the store or wanted to go see a movie with friends I was responsible for it. My parents couldn't do it for me. I have learned to do for myself and not depend on other people to get it done for you.

2. Selflessness

When you growing up and having to work on your own, you become very selfless. You realize that the "real world" isn't easy and your parents sacrificed a lot for you, and that it is now your turn. As I worked and received my paychecks I would give my mom some money or I would pay for various things. I didn't only offer this to my mom, but everyone. I learned to do for others.

3. Time Management

Considering I was in high school, I had a lot ahead of me. I had to manage my time well that way I maintained good grades and had a good work ethic. I had to go to school, then work, along with figuring out when I would study, do homework, eat, and shower. This wasn't always easy, especially working three jobs at once. You learn to managed and juggle everything with there isn't any other option.

4. Appreciation

Since, you don't have a lot of money, you learn to appreciate the little things in life. You are thankful for the people in your life. Materialistic things are nothing, but the relationships in your life mean the most. Not only do you appreciate the little things, but you start realizing that its not easy to manage everything. This gives you a clearer view on how much your parents really do for you whether you have everything you want or nothing.

and most of all.........

5. Purpose in Life

Life has a purpose. We all have a purpose for our life. Some people will find it sooner rather than later, but we all have a reason for being here. Through the tough times you learn your strengths and weaknesses. I have found through my life that I love helping other people in anyway I can. Life truly is beautiful.

We always have to remember that everything happens for a reason. Everything has a purpose. Your struggles are tough, but they lead to better things. Keep your head held high and smile! Life has a lot to offer.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
