Music is a part of our lives every day. From blasting our favorite songs in the car with our friends to jamming out in the shower, we spend countless hours listening to the most popular music artists like the Chainsmokers, Rihanna, and Drake. However, listening to these same songs on repeat can get a bit tiring. If you're looking for some new music to rock out to or just need a change of genre, here are five bands not well-known to mainstream music that definitely deserve a listen.
1. Cold War Kids
Cold War Kids is an indie rock band out of Long Beach, California. They have a super chilled-out sound. The closest comparison to them I could make in terms of mainstream music right now is Twenty-One Pilots. They are currently touring the U.S., so if you like their sound, check out their site for tour dates near you.
Recommended tracks for this band include: "First","Hang Me Up To Dry", and "Miracle Mile".
2. New Politics
New Politics is from Copenhagen and has been rocking out since 2009. They are an alternative rock band trio with some really catchy songs. They are signed to DCD2 Records which also signs bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco.
Recommended Tracks are: "Harlem", "Girl Crush", and "Tonight You're Perfect".
3. Strangers You Know
Strangers You Know includes band members Adam Haagen and Grady Lee. The two met a couple years back at Coachella and formed a band soon after. They have a super catchy sound. These guys are so new, there isn't even a Wikipedia page for them yet. I can personally vouch for them on their amazing live performances after discovering them myself last year at a local concert event. Both Grady and Adam are super cool guys and the band is super interactive on social media. If you're looking for a band with a great sound and loves to talk to their fans, this one is for you!
My personal favorites are: "Used", "Tied", and "Smoke and Mirrors".
4. Turnover
Turnover is a pop punk band that started out in 2009. They are currently touring the U.S., so if you give them a listen and like what you hear, think about grabbing a couple of your friends and go rock out live in concert! This band is also pretty new. I have a feeling that this band is on the verge of a big come-up.
Some good songs to listen to are: "Dizzy on the Comedown", "New Scream", and "I Would Hate You If I Could".
5. The 1975
The 1975 is my personal favorite out of every band on this list. While several of the bands listed have little to no exposure, this one is actually on a rise of popularity. There is a ton of amazing things I could say about this band. They are talented, incredible people, and they really know how to put on a performance. In 2016, I had the opportunity to see them live not once, but twice! Surprisingly, they are announcing a 2017 tour very soon. It seems like these guys are always on the road. Last March, they released their second album "I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It." I can't compare their sound to any kind of mainstream artist at all. In terms of live performances, theirs is the most inspiring. You are not only treated to a musical arrangement, but your eyes get the most beautiful showing of lights, colors, and images. If you want a band that not only has killer music but you can see live up-close and personal without breaking the bank, this is for you. You won't be disappointed.
While I could vouch that every song is mind blowing, their most popular songs include: "Chocolate", "The Sound", and "Somebody Else".
All of these bands have some great music to jam out to, and I'm sure there's one on this list that you'll fall in love with!
