Music.

It’s a gift that just keeps on giving. There is nothing better than discovering a new artist or band that you can feel connected to. Regardless of the genre of music you may listen to, music brings out the best in us, whether it be spiritually or emotionally. Listed in this article are some artists/bands that have really resonated with me and further developed my love for music.

1. Jeff Rosenstock

Jeff Rosenstock is not like your average punk-rock artist. The former frontman of Bomb the Music Industry! and current member of Antarctigo Vespucci is known for utilizing a wide range of genres, including ska-punk and folk punk. Rosenstock is an overjoyed kid in a grown man’s body, but don’t let that fool you. In “...While You’re Alive”, Rosenstock touches on the fact that he wants to let someone know he loves them before they die, because everybody seems to proclaim they love you once that happens. Masking clever lyrics about self-deprecation and social issues with upbeat instrumentation and and choruses you’ll want to sing along to, Rosenstock creates a relatable atmosphere for all who indulge in his music. His most recent LP, WORRY., was released October 14th.

2. PUP

Canadian punk-rockers PUP were originally named “Topanga”,but changed their name after hearing the 90’s TV show Boy Meets World was receiving a spin-off, the band quickly discarded the original name. Whether it be an ode to frontman Stefan Babcock’s old car (“Mabu”) or a hard-hitting song about the struggles of touring (“If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You, I Will”), PUP delivers fast-paced punk rock that is sure to satisfy any music lover’s needs. Their most recent LP, The Dream Is Over, deals with the harsh reality of Babcock’s dangerous vocal cord injury and overcoming those struggles. PUP recently released a video starring Finn Wolfhard, star of Stranger Things, for their most recent single “Sleep in the Heat”.

3. Camp Cope

Camp Cope was formed in 2015 by Australian natives Georgia Maq, Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich, and Sarah Thompson. This trio of women became popular in Australia in what seems like no time at all, securing touring spots with Modern Baseball, Jeff Rosenstock, and Cayetana over the past year. While they have become pretty popular in Australia, this group is sure to make an impact oversees in the near future with catchy songs from their self-titled LP, Camp Cope, such as “Jet Fuel Can’t Melt Steel Beams” and “Done”. The trio recently released a new single, titled “Keep Growing”.

4. Moose Blood

Moose Blood are an English Emo band that was formed in 2012. Since they were formed, the group has gained a lot of popularity in the Emo community, and even embarked on a tour headlined by The Wonder Years and Real Friends. The first ever song the group wrote, “Bukowski”, was released in 2012 and has become a favorite amongst fans of the band. The band’s most recent LP, Blush, was released earlier this year. Whether it be watching American Beauty in the dark, or talking about how Nevermind still blows you away, Moose Blood’s lyrics truly put into perspective how important the little things in life are.

5. Modern Baseball

My personal favorite band, Modern Baseball, was formed by two high school friends, Brendan Lukens and Jake Ewald, in 2011. After the two recorded their debut album, Sports, they recruited bassist Ian Farmer and drummer Sean Huber to join the band. The release of 2014’s You’re Gonna Miss It All brought the band to new heights with their single, “Your Graduation”, becoming a staple of pop punk playlists everywhere. While most of their early songs dealt with chasing girls and the general awkwardness of being a young adult, their most recent album Holy Ghost deals with more personal issues, such as Lukens’ struggle with depression and Ewald’s loss of his grandfather. Prior to the release of their latest album, the band released Tripping In The Dark (A reference to the lyrics of their song “Holy Ghost”), a documentary detailing the origins of the band and the personal struggles of the band members. With clever songs and a clear love for what they do, Modern Baseball is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
