It's 2016—you’re looking through your old photos on Facebook, as anyone who has social media does, and you stumble upon circa 2009 you. While admiring those beautiful turquoise blue side bangs and bright red skinny jeans, as well as that flawless thick, raccoon style eyeliner that you used to rock daily, you start to reminisce on all the bands you used to listen to, like All Time Low, Cute Is What We Aim For, Blink 182, and Boys Like Girls. However, as time goes on, and these bands we love break up (save for Blink 182, god bless), or stop releasing new tracks, we all need something to fill the void that these angsty bands left behind. Thankfully though, although our middle school days are over, angsty bands are still around to keep our previous middle school spirit alive. Here are the 5 bands you should listen to if you’re living in your middle school pop punk phase:

1. The Front Bottoms

Originating in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, The Front Bottoms are a band reminiscent of the pop punk bands you used to love. Their most recent album, “Back on Top” (available on Spotify, iTunes, and Bandcamp), is one of the best albums to come out of 2015, in my opinion, and really showcases the bands unique sound. Tracks like "The Plan (F**k Jobs)" have a light-hearted beat, and is perfect for any car jam-sesh as you sing along with Brian Sella's unique voice and lyrics. However, their self-titled is totally worth the listen as well, featuring tracks that really showcase their original sound. "Maps" one of their earlier tracks is a particularly special track, speaking to anyone who has ever felt like they just need to break away from unhealthy people and move on with their lives.

2. Turnover

After the release of their album “Peripheral Visions” (available on iTunes and Spotify) in 2015, Turnover has shown that they are a band meant to be listened to and remembered. Their hauntingly beautiful sound will remind you of the softer, more acoustic tracks your favorite bands would release as bonuses with their albums. “Humming” will recapture your whimsical spirit, while “Dizzy on the Comedown” will remind you of the feeling you felt when you first met someone truly amazing. Their other singles like "Bella Donna" will remind you of the heartache that only comes around when you're older and know that the person you share your bed with may not be there the next morning.

3. Modern Baseball

A more popular band on the modern pop-punk scene, Modern Baseball is a band to watch out for, as their newest album “Holy Ghost” (all albums are available on Spotify, iTunes, and Bandcamp) showcases the talents of their two main lyricists, Jake Ewald and Brendan Lukens. Their sound is powerful, and the lyrics will resonate with you as they sing to you about being confused and figuring life out as millennials in this era. Their earlier albums, "Sports" and "You're Gonna Miss It All", are also worth checking out. Early tracks like "Weekend" tells the story about having a killer time with your best friends, and possibly living a slightly poseur, hipster lifestyle, and "Two Good Things" off the former album, which talks about being overwhelmed and insecure about whether you're able to handle the life you're living. The band is real, and make you feel like someone else understands the unresolved angst running through your mind.

4. Oliver Houston

A severely underrated band from Michigan, Oliver Houston is a band destined to succeed and grow in popularity. Although they only current have an EP out (“The Dork Ages”, available on Spotify and Bandcamp), Oliver Houston is a band worth checking out, and will satisfy your alternative needs as you explore their underrated sounds. "The Dork Ages", which the album is named after is a killer track, with an amazing sound as well as lyrics that may not make sense but are fun to sing along with any time. In addition, the track "Brother" has a vaguely more hardcore sound for those of us who were A Day to Remember fans and miss its slight screamo nature. As the band is releasing an album in 2017, now is the best time to learn about this indie band, and be able to tell your friends that you knew them before they were cool.

5. Perspective, A Lovely Hand to Hold

Much like Oliver Houston, Perspective, A Lovely Hand to Hold is an indie band from Nashua, New Hampshire. Their sound will reverberate within you, as the band members sing about losing their first loves, or the ever-popular pop-punk theme of being stuck in their hometown. "I Get Really Dizzy Sometimes" is a personal favorite, talking about being left behind in your hometown while everyone seems to be moving on, even though you know you can reach out to them at any time. Although their work is limited, this band is worth the listen and will speak to us who may be a little lost, but are learning about who they are.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
