My, oh my. The first day of classes is just right around the corner! Two and a half weeks to be exact. That means it’s time to exchange your swimsuit and flip flops for a backpack and pencil. But don’t be fooled by this 80-degree weather—with a blink of an eye you will back in that crowded lecture hall, bored out of your mind. Although these next two weeks will consist of inevitable post-summer depression, who doesn’t love shopping for college? I mean come on, I could easily drop $200 at Target while trying to buy everything from school supplies to the perfect silk sheets. Since my roommates and I just moved into our beautiful five-bedroom apartment on Langdon Street, I have all the essential items you need for your back to school shopping list—apartment edition.
1. Kitchen Must-Haves
This will be perhaps the biggest portion of your receipt. Kitchen essentials range from pots and pans, silverware, plates, bowls, paper towels, napkins, cups, glasses, potato peeler, cutting boards, ice cream scooper, whisks, meat clamper, salt and pepper, mugs, can opener, ice cube trays, and,of course, a Brita water filter.
2. Cleaning: Spick ‘N Span!
These essentials are more important than you may think. Dirt appears out of nowhere and dust accumulates faster than you can bat an eye. So, don’t forgot Clorox wipes, Swiffer dusters, mop, broom, vacuum, toilet cleaner, glass and window cleaner, dishwasher pods, sponges, dish soap, and bathroom cleaner.
3. The Infamous Keurig
Coffee, coffee—and more coffee! College stress can amp up quick, so be prepared for everything school throws at you. Plus—save some money by making your own coffee.
4. Room Essentials and Decor
Evidently this is every girl’s favorite part of apartment shopping. From finding decorative pillows to silky sheets, here are some additional reminders while designing your perfect room: Christmas lights, picture frames, clothes hamper, towels, rug, scented candles, shoe rack, hangers, and storage bins.
5. Living Room Luxuries
Although we are still in college and probably don’t have a dime to our name, shopping for this portion of your apartment is still exhilarating. Don’t forget to buy a comfortable couch, standing lamps, ottomans, TV, rug, a basket for extra blankets, and decorative pillows.
This extensive list might overwhelm you at first, but hopefully serves you well when you’re in Target, surrounded by several isles of stuff you need—having nowhere to start.
