Oh, London. How I love thee. I'm currently studying abroad for 4 months, and despite only being here for a week and a half, I have grown to love the city and all it has to offer. There are a select few things that I love about London specifically, and so without further ado, here are my top 5 London loves!
1. The Tube
The BEST public transport ever imagined. The Tube is so accessible and easy to use once you know where you're going. With an Oyster Card in hand, you will be able to get anywhere in London, whether it is Piccadilly Circus, Holborn, or the hilarious as always Cockfosters. Riding the tube is also nice, as everyone on there is usually quiet, listening to music or reading the newspaper. It's the best ever, y'know, when there isn't a tube strike the first day of classes.
2. The Rich History
London is a city unlike many, where it has a long history and is not shy of showing it off. With museums galore like The British Museum, The National History Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, you can learn about almost anything within London. It's not just the museums, as landmarks, architecture, and old city streets can often tell you a lot about the city as well.
3. The Markets
Despite London being known as such an expensive city, some subparts of London outside the central area hold many markets that sell an array of things for decent prices. There's the Portobello Market as well as the Camden Market, all with their own little flair of food, trinkets, and culture.
4. The Food
I did not know what to expect when it came down to British Food. I knew about fish and chips, and that was about it. Would I like what London had to offer? Luckily, I loved it and more. I tried fish and chips and it was delicious. I tried pie and mash and that was delicious as well. London has food from everywhere from pasta to pizza to chicken and more. The food is to die for, and if at a great price, can be just what I need.
5. The Theatre
Boy, London can really put on a show! I've already seem more amazing plays than I have in a long time. The artistry, the theatrics, costume, acting, singing galore, London is known to tell a story on stage and to tell it very well. I've seen Wicked and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime so far, and both were phenomenal in their own ways. Moving forward, I can't wait to see more productions because I know they will be sure to entertain and surprise me!
So overall, London has been a great experience and I can't wait to see what else is in store!
