5 Artists You Should Start Listening To

Do you need a fresh playlist filled with catchy songs and artists to jam out to for days on end? Are you tired of hearing the same five songs repeat themselves over and over on the radio?

Let me stop you there, and answer that. Yes. We all eventually, no matter how much we like an artist or band, will be mad at the radio station for playing the same song by them ten times in the past three hours.

Music, for me, is crucial to my everyday routine. It is impossible, for me, to go even just one hour without music playing in the background. I was raised on country and rock & roll, then discovered pop, show-tunes, rap, hip-hop, alternative, indie, and even more. Just within the past couple of years alone, my music library on Spotify (great start for discovering new music) has probably doubled and continuing daily to grow.

Here are five of my latest recommendations to listen to, if you want to avoid the music "mainstream" mania and stand out from your peers in the music scene.

1. The Wild Wild (Alternative)

I totally recommend this band's EP Kids for anyone. This five song EP is comprised of these songs: When We Were Young, Young Blood, Kids of The Sun, and two more remixes of When We Were Young. These songs are filled with eclectic synthetic beats, scream California-vibes, and are perfect to add on to a summer road trip playlist.

*Favorite song: When We Were Young

2. Family and Friends (Alternative)

This band, reigning from Athens, Georgia has two albums that each comprise of six songs: Love You Mean It (released in 2014) and XOXO (released in 2015). I totally recommend this band for anyone who likes cool and calm sounding indie and folk music, and wants more of it in their life.

*Favorite songs: Of Lovers and Liars (Love You Mean It) & Amadeus (XOXO)

3. Brytt and Kev (Pop)

This duo from Nashville, Tennessee has a five song EP, released in 2014, called The Alliance. I didn't know about them, until I got a follow from their band account on twitter, and writing about this EP is just a lesson to all that you should listen and pay attention to the undiscovered bands/artists that follow you on social media accounts.

*Favorite song: I honestly can't decide. They're all good.

4. The Hunna (Alternative Pop/Indie-Rock)

Honestly, what's a recommendation list without a British rock band? Having released three songs in these last couple of months: You & Me, We Could Be, and Still Got Blood- this band from Hertfordshire, England is my choice on this list to be an upcoming mainstream group within the next year, if not by the end of 2016. The Hunna is also set to release their sixteen song album, 100 ,on August 26th as well as starting their tour towards the end of this year.

*Favorite song: You & Me or We Could Be

5. That Poppy (Pop)

My last recommendation is the fifteen-year-old singer That Poppy, who is slowly slipping into becoming a mainstream artist after releasing her four song EP Bubblebath on February 12th. I remember discovering her music after looking up similar artists to Melanie Martinez (which if you don't know who she is by now, well here is your bonus artist) and finding this EP. It instantly stood out to me, after hearing the reggae sounding beats of the album's lead song Lowlife, followed by the upbeat Money, and ending with Altar and American Kids. That Poppy is a music artist that

*Favorite song: Lowlife- but after listening to the album again Altar is really starting to grow on me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
