Five Apps All College Students Should Download

Being the tech-savvy young people that we are, there’s no doubt that our smartphones are filled with many different apps. As well as being smooth with technology, we college students are known for being resourceful. You can make your life much easier with the right apps on your phone this semester and many in the future. Read the list below and start downloading!

1. Square Cash

Square Cash is an app created for sharing money. If you want to pull money together for a party, all you have to do is sync your card to the app and push send. It will all go to your bank account and all of a sudden you have plenty of money for cheap Natty Light. This is also very useful for paying bills between you and all of your roommates without trying to write checks and collecting cash.

2. Any.do

This is a basic application for a to-do list but it is silky smooth in operation, making it easy to stay productive throughout the day. If you turn on your push notifications, you will be reminded throughout the day that you have tasks that you wanted to have completed.

3. Rate My Professor

We all hate sitting in a lecture with an extremely boring professor, so why not prevent that by checking out what others have to say about them? That’s exactly what Rate My Professor is all about. You will be warned about the hard exams and harsh grading scales as well as the nice professors who will take their time to help you succeed. There’s even a red hot pepper symbol next to some of the names to let you know if the professor in question is attractive or not. Before you schedule next semester’s classes, make sure you check out Rate My Professor.

4. Mixologist

OK, if you don’t drink then you wouldn’t need to download this app. But, according to the numbers, most of you will like this. Mixologist teaches you how to be your own bartender. With plenty of categories of drinks, you can impress your friends with new combinations for any occasion. Plus, it’s a lot of fun to try new drinks as well. Get to mixin’ with Mixologist for your next party.

5. Pocket Points

Pocket Points is a great way to pay attention in class while being rewarded for doing so. The idea of it is simple. You get “pocket points” for having your phone locked in class and not using it. In return, these points can be used at local restaurants that participate in the use of the app. The downfall of the app is that it hasn’t spread to all colleges yet. It’s worth a download if you can find your school!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
