The 5 Most Annoying Things About Manga And Anime

Boob physics is a thing.

The 5 Most Annoying Things About Manga And Anime

Before I get into this, I just want to point out that I am a huge fan of various anime and manga. But they both follow certain trends that really irk me. Here are the five things that get under my skin:

1. A Character is Cuter/More Attractive Without their Glasses

(Izumi from Love Stage!!)

As a person who wears glasses, I find this to be personally offensive. Some people do look better without glasses, but definitely not all of them. Manga and anime have had a habit of making a character go through a situation where they take their glasses off or have them get taken and then all of a sudden they're considered pretty/handsome. This sends the negative message that people with glasses are not at all attractive and that they should change themselves. Which is wrong on so many levels. I have seen plenty of manga and anime characters with glasses that look great as they are. There should be more glasses-positivity in this field.

2. Girls that Hit Guys who Accidentally see Them in their Underwear or Naked

(From Love Hina)

I can understand wanting to hit a guy who peeps on a girl on purpose, but when it's an accident, I don't think violence is the answer. These kinds of situations makes the girls look like they think that even their best guy friend is a pervert when they're not. If it's clear to us, the readers/viewers, that the peeping was accidental, it should logically be clear to the girl that it was accidental. Guys getting punched for an unintentional mistake happens way too often in manga and anime.

3. Teenage Soldiers

(From Mobile Suit Gundam 00)

Why use perfectly good adults to fight a major war when you can use teenagers instead? Teenagers that aren't even 18, might I add. Why this keeps on happening baffles me. And reasons like 'only teens are able to use this type of equipment' are so stupid and practically a cop-out. I'm sure a manga and/or anime would still be as interesting if the teenagers were swapped with adults. This field really has to stop intentionally putting teens in harms way.

4. Giving Big Breasts to Underage Girls

(Yoko from Gurren Lagann)

The girl above is a prime example of unrealistic body proportions given to underage girls. Doesn't matter what age she looks, she's only 14! Since when do fourteen-year-old females get breasts like that? On top of that she's wearing a bikini; also what someone of her age shouldn't have. Young girls designed with her body type make me wonder if certain authors and artists aren't just closet pedophiles with vast imaginations.

5. Boob Physics

(From left to right: Saya, Rei, and Saeko from Highschool of the Dead)

This term refers to the severely unnatural movements of a woman's breasts. Whether this is the primary focus of an anime or it just happens at random, it is always ridiculous and over-the-top. There has to be other ways of attracting a male audience that don't involve girl's breasts moving in such a manner that makes them seem like they have minds of their own. 'Boob Physics' is a terrible, sexist and gross term that should be eradicated from anime and manga completely.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
