5 Alternative Artists/Bands You Need To Listen To
WTOP

My all time favorite genre of music is alternative. Whether it is grunge or indie pop or anything in between, it's basically all I listen to. So, when I find new bands or artists that I love, it's so exciting to me. Because alternative is such a diverse genre, I'm always finding new music that I love. If you are like me in this way, here are 7 of my favorite alternative bands and artists I am listening to right now.

1. Billie Eilish

My favorite song: idontwannabeyouanymore

Lyrics:

If teardrops could be bottled

There'd be swimming pools filled by models

Told a tight dress is what makes you a whore

Billie Eilish is an alternative singer from Los Angeles, California who has just recently put out a new album titled "don't smile at me," which I have been playing on repeat since it has came out. Her mature vocals and lyrics make it surprising that she is only 15!

2. The Night Cafe

My favorite song: Mixed Signals

Lyrics:

And now you're not mine, mine

I didn't think that I didn't need you

I just got fucked and you made the decisions

I stumbled across this band on Tumblr one day and have been obsessed ever since! Most of their music has a nice indie pop/indie rock vibe that always makes me want to drive with the windows down. They are definitely a new favorite of mine.

3. Hippo Campus

My favorite song: baseball

Lyrics:

There goes that moonboy
Looking jungly
With all his leaves a-growing

This indie rock band from St. Paul, Minnesota have plenty of songs that'll make you want to get up and dance around your bedroom like they do in the movies.

4. The Hunna

My favorite song: You & Me

Lyrics:

You & me

Smoking by the hunna tree

You & me

We were meant to be

Right now, The Hunna is all I can listen to. Their music makes me miss summer and being with my friends.

5. Early Eyes

My favorite song: Take You

Lyrics:

There’s a lot to recover from that night out

When you leaned in and whispered, “yeah I’m trying to take you down.”

Early Eyes is an indie band from Minnesota that I also discovered on Tumblr. I really recommend going on YouTube and looking at some of their live music.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
