The array of things I call and text my sister about is almost comical, and frequently questionable. Luckily, she graduated from the same college I currently attend, so even if she doesn't know specifically what I should do, she can still help me be less of a mess.
1) They know the best places to go, both on and off campus.
That random sandwich shop no one knows exists, it was pointed out to you on move-in day. That sketchy building that’s cash only? Best pizza in town. That teacher whose test make little to no sense? Avoid. You may be tentative at first, but their usually right.
2) There’s no pressure on Family Weekend because your parents already know the drill.
Not only that, but when you have to decide what to do or where to go to eat, it is a mutual decision between you and your sibling. If the place you go to is less than satisfactory, you're only partly to blame.
3) The random tidbits of information and insight you usually gain from experience, have been handed directly to you.
This class will count for that requirement if I say what? I can get all of my textbooks through the library system for free? Mind blowing.
4) When you complain about something at school, they know exactly what you are talking about.
They can also be helpful after you finish venting about your problem, because they’ve been there and understand you’re not crazy. For every complaint, they have a potential solution. Sometimes, the only thing they can do is share in your outrage, and that’s exactly what you need.
5) When someone accidentally calls you by your sibling’s name, it’s like being home for a split second.
It’s comforting to hear something so familiar. Brings on a string of flashbacks to times when your mom managed to call you every one of your sibling’s names before she got around to yours.
Feeling a little more sane and comfortable at college is a blessing. Knowing what you're getting yourself into is definitely a huge perk of going to the same school as your sibling. Shout out to my sister for always answering the phone, and for registering me for all my courses. Wouldn't be enrolled in any classes without you, buddy.
