"Reading for fun is a thing?"

It's summer. And that means you have a little bit more free time on your hands, even if you are taking summer classes. During the school year, your time is consumed by papers, projects, part-time jobs, and clubs. Sure, some of those activities might continue over to the summer season, but I've compiled a list of activities that you may have forgotten existed over the school year.

1. Reading For Fun

When's the last time you've picked up a book for fun? No more reading for school purposes. Try cracking open a book that doesn't make you eyes immediately glaze over as soon as you open it. Also, now it's the time to try out different genres of books. Usually, read romance novels, try something a little bit out of your comfort zone, maybe a horror novel? (By the way, I totally tried this, and let me tell you, Horror Novels are actually scarier than they seem...)

2. Getting Ice Cream

Ice Cream? I know what you're thinking. No one can forget about getting ice cream. HOWEVER, instead of it being a stress/impulse decision to get during school, it's something that can actually be enjoyed for once. And everyone knows that ice cream during the summer is 10x better that any other time during the year.

3. Sitting Outside For No Reason

I know that half of the year Michigan is a blanket of white snow, but when the weather is nice, Michiganders pretend that it's 85 and in the middle summer. Well now, it's actually summer and you no longer have to pretend that it's summer. Go outside just because and chill. Don't bring any homework or stress with you. Just sit outside and enjoy the outdoors because you can!

4. Biking Without A Time Restraint

No more stress biking to class. Instead, grab a friend and try going for a relaxing bike ride. If biking isn't your thing, try something else. Try going on a run that isn't planned, that doesn't have a time limit. Or go on an unplanned road trip with friends. You had your school year planned out by day, try changing up your routine, you'll be very thankful you did!

5. Relaxing?

This is one activity that you've most likely forgotten about. Now that most of the stress of finals has resolved, you can actually do something that is relaxing. Whether it be, running, watching TV, hanging out with family, do something that requires little to no stress at all! Even though you might be working, or taking summer classes.... it's still summer!

Don't forget, you're alive and breathing! Don't over work yourself, have fun!

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
