Five Things You Can Do To Help With Stress And Anxiety

We all get stressed, and we all deal with it a different way. Some people even have to deal with anxiety problems but don’t want to take medication. Being able to calm down after a stressful situation can be hard but not impossible. Here are some things you can do to help yourself feel back at ease.

  1. Take A Deep Breath.  Focus on your breathing, and remain calm. When we stress, we tend to loose focus of everything happening and usually ends in fainting or dizziness because we loose control of our breathing and sometimes even forget to breath. So inhale and exhale for a minute or so, and talk yourself through it.
  2. Talk It Out. If you are someone who feels better after venting to a friend, then talk your heart out. At some point dealing with your own issues and feelings as well as everyone else's starts to build up and soon one explodes. That's when stress and anxiety hits, and you really loose it. Talking to a friend and having someone listen can be a great way to avoid blowing up.
  3. Leave. It is that simple. If you wake up everyday with the same routine and your stress is just getting to you, then drop everything. Some people find a sense of comfort when they are by themselves. It gives you time to relax and think of the good things in life instead of the bad. Wether you just go outside or take a trip somewhere, sometimes you just have to leave things behind you so you can focus on yourself and prepare yourself to deal with life.
  4. Take a drive. Grab your keys. Get in your car. Drive. Even if you don't have a destination, driving helps people calm down. Add some good music, and sing your heart out. If you're not a good singer who cares? Driving has been known to help people forget about their stress. Besides who doesn't love a good jam sesh of your favorite 80’s music. Journey anyone? You can't tell me that your problems don't fade away when ,” Don't Stop Believin,'” comes on.
  5. Retail Therapy Is The Best Therapy. Everyone has done this in their life at least once. Shopping day! Take your best friend, and just go nuts (on a budget of course). Go to your favorite stores, and treat yourself. Sometimes it takes a day of spoiling yourself to forget about what is going on in your life and having good company is a bonus. Grab a cute black dress for an upcoming date. Guys can do this too, who doesn't love a sexy new suit?

These are just a few tips to help with stress and anxiety. There is always something we can do to take our minds off of the negativity in our lives. A good thing to always keep in mind is that you are not alone and sometimes feeling that we are is a big element to why we are stressed in the first place. These tips may seem like small actions, and I’m not promising that it will get rid of your stress but it helps.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
