Want to visit Pennsylvania someday? I suggest checking out places in the lower region of the state. From Hershey to Gettysburg, there are all sorts of places to see and things to learn. Here's a list of a few pretty awesome attractions.
1. Hershey Park
Probably the most popular attraction in the state, Hershey Park is ten kinds of awesome. There are rides for all ages, a huge waterpark, and tons of games to play. Worth every penny!
2. Hershey's Chocolate World
Adjacent to Hershey Park, Chocolate World is pretty cool, too. There are tons of souvenirs to choose from, a free chocolate tour ride, and even restaurants that specialize in Hershey's chocolate products.
3. The Hershey Museum
Called "The Hershey Story," this museum teaches you the history and legacy of Milton Hershey and the chocolate confections he had created.
4. Eastern State Penitentiary
A former prison later turned into a tourist attraction. Willie Sutton and Al Capone were held behind bars here. It is said to be haunted, and there's even an annual Halloween event called "Terror Behind The Walls."
5. Gettysburg National Military Park
Here's where you want to go if you want to learn about The Battle of Gettysburg. The park covers most of the battlefield, support areas (supply, hospital, etc.), and non-battle areas related to the aftermath.
6. The National Civil War Museum
You can learn the whole story of The Civil War and its aftermath. It is known to tell the whole story "without bias to the Union and Confederate causes."
7. Intercourse
Yes, this is a real place. It's a village known for its name and is located in "Amish country." The movie "Witness" was filmed here. Due to the town's name, people like to try to steal signposts.
8. Lake Tobias
Love animals? Go here! This place is much better than the zoo. Birds, mammals, and reptiles from all over the planet can be found here. You can even go on a safari tour.
9. Lakemont Park
An underrated amusement park, Lakemont is home to the world's oldest rollercoaster, having been built in 1902. It is also one of the thirteen trolley parks still operating. The attraction has been closed for a few years, but they plan on opening again in the summer of 2019.
10. Indian Echo Caverns
Take a tour through these limestone caves. It is said that Native Americans used the caverns for storage and shelter. For almost a decade, the caves were home to William Wilson, best known as The Pennsylvania Hermit.
