Last week, I wrote about my first 12 hours out of less than 48 in NYC. The highlights: I toured SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown, Fifth Avenue, Madison Avenue, Times Square, Chelsea and the High Line. In about 12 hours. Man, I'm tired just thinking about it again! On to day two.
We slept in until about 10:00 a.m. because we were so tired from the 30,000 steps we'd taken all over Manhattan the day before. Then it was back into the island from the Bronx for more eating and sightseeing!
Approximately 11:00 a.m.: We headed back to Chelsea for breakfast. What did I have for my very first NYC breakfast? I think you can guess: a bagel! It was pretty delicious and I washed it down with espresso and way too much sugar via doughnuts from The Doughnut Plant. I've been lucky enough to eat them before, since our host and Elizabeth's mom is sweet enough to bring them to Orlando, but nothing beats having them fresh.
Noon: We took the subway to Greenwich Village, where we saw the historic Stonewall Inn memorial. It was a sobering moment, especially so recently after the Pulse shooting literally hitting so close to home. We had a slice of NYC pizza (finally!) with our history lesson, and I concur with New Yorkers that their crispy crust is among the very best I've ever had.
1:00 p.m.: We hopped back on the train to the tip of the island to visit Ground Zero. We ended up needing to choose between this option or the Statue of Liberty, since both are time consuming. I decided in the short amount of time we had, I would prefer to see where the Twin Towers formerly stood. I have vivid memories of watching them fall live on the news when I was 11 years old, and I had a moment of intense sadness and appreciation for all our service people who put their lives on the line for us every day.
Then, it was time to head back to "home" in the Bronx, shower, change and take the two trains and buses to New Jersey for the Coldplay concert in MetLife stadium!
I haven't been to many concerts in my life, and Coldplay was spectacular live. Their Head Full of Dreams tour is amazing and not to be missed if you're a fan of the band!
I'm satisfied with all I accomplished in NYC in so very little time, but I feel like I just got a teasing taste! I absolutely can't wait to plan my next trip to the Big Apple so I can take my time and enjoy my sightseeing. And eat another bagel or five.
