45 Reasons I Want To Thank My Roommate
My College Guide

Our roommates are our closest friends, the keepers of our secrets and our families away from home. For the months we are at college, we see our roommates at the start of each day and before we go to sleep at night. They are the ones who help us adjust to living away from our parents and the ones who cried with us that first weekend on our own. After a few months, the relationship between your roomie and you is the norm. We are so used to the things they do for us that sometimes we forget to thank them. I want to thank my roommate for everything she does to keep me sane and breathing.

1. Making sure I wake up for our 8 am PE class.

2. Always calling me before you get food in case I want something.

3. Random Chinese food runs.

4. Telling me if my outfit / hair looks awful.

5. Understanding when I am in one of my moods

6. Movie nights that last until three in the morning.

7. Letting me borrow your clothes.

8. Going to the vending machines with me at 1 am.

9. Dealing with the fact that I like the room to be like a freezer.

10. Taking short showers when you know I need one.

11. Obsessing over shows like The Bachelor and Keeping Up With The Kardashians with me.

12. Listening to me vent about everything in my life from family problems to what happened on last night's The Walking Dead.

13. Listening to my favorite songs so many times that you have learned to love them.

14. Sharing my love of celebrity gossip.

17. Being my support every day.

18. Late night talks.

19. Not judging me for sleeping until 12 every Saturday.

20. Studying with me.

21. Exploring new places in our new city.

22. Not taking pictures of my first thing in the morning before I put myself together.

23. Going to the dining hall and food court during those first weeks when we knew no one else.

24. Excepting the things I decided to get involved with around campus.

25.Telling me to do my laundry.

26. Making my introverted self go out and socialize.

27. Keeping me grounded and reminding me why I am in college.

28. Making sure I am always safe.

29. Listening to stories about people you don't know.

30. Wishing me good luck before tests.

31. Knowing my Starbucks order and bringing me one during finals week.

32. Reminding me that "I don't need no man" because I am strong enough to reach all my dreams on my own.

33. For taking care of me when I am sick.

34. Planning roomie nights when we've been busy and not seen each other.

35. Telling me when I am about to do something stupid or embarrassing.

36. Not complaining about my room being a disaster 80 percent of the time.

37. Listening to the plans I have for the future and never discouraging me.

38. Telling me I look slimmer after two days of dieting.

39. Understanding my Pinterest obsession.

45. One day being a bridesmaid in my wedding.

Thank you for being my best friend, Netflix partner and family. Thank you for accepting every one of my flaws and odd tendencies. You have never told anyone my secrets and I will take yours to the grave. I cannot imagine ever not living five feet away from you. Being roommates is truly like living with your best friend and I would not want it any other way.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
