41 Thoughts When Packing For The Summer
Juli Shulem

The end of the school year: a time of stress, excitement and anticipation for the upcoming months off. On top of a never-ending list of final exams and projects that need completed, you have to pack up your room so that you can venture home for the summer. This is easier said than done, though. Here are thoughts that go through many people's minds as they pack up the place that has been their home for the past year:

1. OK, I’m going to get a head start on this.

2. Crap I didn’t mean to sleep for four hours.

3. I guess I’ll have to start tomorrow.

4. Or maybe the next day.

5. Shoot I’m going home in 12 hours and nothing is packed.

6. Why do I procrastinate everything?

7. If I was pursuing a Bachelor’s of Procrastination, I would have a 4.0.

8. My room is only 10 x 14. This will take an hour at most.

9. Time to get down to business.

10. Wow, how did I accumulate so much stuff?

11. This room is like a clown car.

12. Seriously, how does this all fit in here?

13. There is no way this is all going to fit into my car.

14. This is really hard work.

15. Maybe I should take a break to eat.

16. Oh look! I found some cookies I didn’t know I had. Score.

17. It’s a shame I have to take down all my decorating.

18. Oh boy that hole in the wall was not there when I moved in.

19. Really hoping that I don’t get charged for this.

20. I should really do my laundry before leaving.

21. Or I can save it as a present for my mom? Let’s do that.

22. How have I only packed up two boxes?

23. I would pay big money for someone to this for me.

24. I wish I had money.

25. Maybe the $2 I found under my bed can buy me some dinner.

26. There is still SO MUCH to pack.

27. This is more overwhelming than my entire finals week.

28. I have to unpack this all again when I get home.

29. I’m already dreading it.

30. Maybe then I won’t procrastinate.

31. LOL, who am I trying to kid?

32. Why unpack when I have to do this all again in three months?

33. Oh my gosh I have to do this again in three months.

34. Hopefully I get better at packing and planning.

35. I probably won’t. Old habits die hard.

36. FINALLY FINISHED!

37. It’s going to take an engineering degree to fit this all into my trunk.

38. I can’t believe how fast this year went.

39. Didn’t I just move in last night?

40. I can’t wait to hibernate for a week when I get home.

41. That way I can avoid unpacking for as long as possible.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
