The August heat strikes the backs of sun kissed students, boxes and suitcases are being stacked in new dorms and apartments, and unreasonably expensive textbooks are being purchased everywhere. The signs of the first week of college classes are evident, and so are the expectations of the students. The all too familiar syllabus week, where professors are supposed to briefly inform students about the upcoming semester, is known as one of the best (and easiest) times of the academic year. Here are 40 thoughts that every college student has during syllabus week:

1. Summer was so refreshing! I'm so ready for the semester!

2. Should I buy the textbook before class starts?

3. Nah, I'll wait to see if I really need to buy it.

4. Is he really going to read the syllabus word for word? I thought we'd be out of here in 15 minutes!

5. Wait...he's not actually going to lecture the first day of class, right??

6. Oh, my God. He's really lecturing the first day of class.

7. It is too hot to walk across this entire campus.

8. Hmm...do I have any friends in this class?

9. Oh no...I don't recognize anyone. Now I actually have to try to make new friends...

10. Do I really need this course? It's still the add/drop period!!

11. I promise I'm going to stay organized this semester.

12. Is it too early to skip class on the second day?

13. If the professor says, "This is a class you'll have to study for," I am seriously considering dropping it.

14. I honestly, truly, seriously do not think I can handle this 8:00 a.m. class.

15. What time do I have to wake up in order to get to class on time?

16. Why is a 93% in this class considered an "A minus" and not an "A"???

17. Oh my God... I'm actually going to have to study for this class.

18. "Rate My Professor" definitely lied to me.

19. If I introduce myself to my professor after class, maybe I'll make a good first impression.

20. DoNotFallAsleep. DoNotFallAsleep. DoNotFall

21. I literally zoned out during the entire class.

22. Please tell me this course doesn't take attendance for a grade.

23. Just kill me now. I actually have to go to class.

24. If I dress nicely the first week, maybe my classmates will want to be my friend.

25. Ehh, an XXXXXXXL T-shirt and Nike shorts will do.

26. I really, really, really hope there isn't a pop quiz anytime soon.

27. I really, really, really hope the quizzes for this class are somewhere online.

28. Dang, I'm actually going to have to buy the textbook.

29. I think I deserve a nap between my classes. It's been a long week.

30. I don't have to study; it's only the first week of classes!

31. Should I go the party tonight or stay home and organize all of my school necessities?

32. WHO AM I KIDDING? Party, of course.

33. The guy five rows down is so cute. Maybe I'll sit closer to him next class!

34. How much longer is this class? 50 more minutes??

35. Well... that's like 10 minutes, 5 times!

36. I am literally already dreading the final exam.

37. How much longer until Christmas break?

38. I thought syllabus week wasn't supposed to be stressful.

39. Exams are worth how much in this class?

40. Thank God it's finally the weekend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
