40 Things I Wish I Would've Known In High School

1. Calm down with the eyeliner.

2. Don't tell your mom you hate her; you will forever regret it.

3. If he cheats on you don't stay around.

4. Stop telling your life story on Facebook and Twitter.

5. Call and talk to your nana just because.

6. Not everyone will like you.

7. Kill them with kindness.

8. Get to know everyone no matter what "group" they're in.

9. Don't let your mistakes define you.

10. Learn from your mistakes.

11. Your mom is always right.

12. Your parents can see a fake friend before you can.

13. Your dad can pick out the bad guys before you can.

14. You were beautiful before your crush said it.

15. Prom is not the best night of your life. But still go it can be fun.

16. High school is not the best years of your life. However, enjoy it while it lasts.

17. He isn't the love of your life.

18. Be YOU.

19. Learn to apologize.

20. Lear to forgive.

21. Eat that dang piece of cake.

22. Hung your parents every chance you get.

23. Write thank you notes.

24. Tell your favorite teacher she's the best.

25. Love God.

26. Pray for your future husband.

27. Pray for your future children.

28. God's plan is greater than yours.

29. Eat home-cooked meals. You will miss them.

30. Nothing GOOD happens after midnight.

31. Put others before yourself sometimes.

32. Also don't forget to love yourself and put yourself first when you need YOU time.

33. Stop worrying about the past.

34. You lose friends.

35. You gain friends.

36. Your high school BFF won't be your forever BFF.

37. Look at the sale rack first.

38. When your parents buy you stuff say thank you.

39. Don't worry about what people say about you.

40. Stop and enjoy life. Life goes by too fast.

Just remember that even though you sometimes think you've hit rock bottom and life sucks you'll get through this. When you have the best time of your life filled with you best friends, joy, laughter and kindness you won't remember the hurt you once felt. Go on adventures and love your life!

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
