The Odyssey

If you're a college student, you can relate to other college students on a spiritual level. You find all sorts of new ways to struggle in college. You find weird habits to take up, you see weird things, and really, there's just nothing like college. So here are 40 things that make you shake your head, laugh, and/or reflect in shame and mutter, #college.

1. Avoiding a random statue, tower or seal (Because obviously you won't graduate otherwise.)

2. Sneaking food out of the caf or dining hall to save for later

3. Crying a little when you see your textbook total at the beginning of each semester

4. Being a little too resourceful with duct tape and staples and other cheap fixes

5. Truthfully believing that a five minute drive is way too much gas to be using up so willy nilly

6. But 1am McDonalds is totally worth it

7. Not having a dress code is great, not for dressing scandalously, but for throwing on the comfiest outfit possible for your 8am

8. Being so flogged with assignments, you just go on autopilot and you don't even know what you're doing

9. Counting down the days until the end of the semester....during the first month

10. Forever silencing and unsilencing your group texts and GroupMes depending on the day

11. Wondering to yourself if your professors do things simply to make your life miserable

12. Reading so much for homework that you start talking about Shakespeare in your chem lab

13. Keys with lanyards

14. Spending the whole week trying to find out who's throwing a party over the weekend

15. Forever hiding alcohol in the back of the fridge, like no one can see it

16. Twin XL bedding

17. The anxiety that comes with registering for next semester

18. Spending so long in the library writing a paper that your eye starts twitching

19. Sleeping anywhere (or passing out anywhere)

20. Shower caddies, because when else will you need to transport your bathing materials back and forth?

21. Stalking the super full parking lot looking for a decent spot (and considering paying someone to give you theirs)

22. Having no regrets, because at least you have some bomb stories to tell

23. BSing an 8 page paper within three hours because you procrastinated for six weeks

24. Skipping a class to do work for that class

25. Checking your email three times at 4am to see if class is cancelled

26. Asking your professor if they'll cancel class for the smallest thing (The projector isn't working, let's cancel.)

27. Coming up with really weird, somewhat successful, hangover cures

28. Having a squad that piles into one person's 10x10 dorm room for no good reason

29. Doing things because someone said "You won't do it!"

30. Learning that your high school has no remote concept of what college is like

31. Checking out that really cute person across the quad then realizing that they are three years younger than you

32. Going to some really weird sporting events, assemblies, and lectures in order to get some extra credit, or just to find something to do

33. Realizing that cereal is acceptable for any and all meals

34. Turning in a project at 11:58pm

35. Doing a dumb action after having one drink, and you just "blame it on the alcohol"

36. Accepting free anything

37. Your laptop is your best friend and your worst enemy

38. Telling your parents everything is fine... when nothing is fine

39. You miss your pets, and have considered sneaking one into the dorm

40. Not knowing why, but absolutely loving the crazy ride that is #college

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
