40 Movies To See Before You Turn 40

In this day and age, technology surrounds us. There are kids growing up that do not know a life without computers, T.V., phones, etc. Americans actually spend 70 percent of their waking life in front of some kind of digital media. More specifically, adults spend approximately five hours watching some sort of video. Video material can include T.V., videos on Facebook, and even movies. When discussing movies, there are some "classics" and just overall great films that can get over looked.

Below is a list of 40 movies that you need to watch sometime before you turn 40, if you haven't already. Many of those included on this list are the older classics, but there are some more modern and even recent films that made the list. Without further a do, a list of some of the movies you must see before you turn 40 in no particular order except maybe the first:

1. Stars Wars (1977-2009)

2. The Wizard of Oz (1939)

3. Casablanca (1942)

4. The Breakfast Club (1985)

5. Back to the Future (1985)

6. Forrest Gump (1994)

7. The Terminator (1984)

8. Fight Club (1999)

9. Up (2009)

10. The Goonies (1985)

11. Rain Man (1988)

12. JFK (1991)

13. Lincoln (2012)

14. E.T. (1982)

15. O, Brother Where Art Thou? (2000)

16. Animal House (1978)

17. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

18. Letters to God (2010)

19. Gone With The Wind (1939)

20. The Godfather (1972)

21. Rocky (1976)

22. Titantic (1997)

23. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

24. Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)

25. The King's Speech (2010)

26. The Sound of Music (1965)

27. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

28. Mary Poppins (1964)

29. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

30. The Color Purple (1985)

31. The Help (2011)

32. Braveheart (1995)

33. West Side Story (1961)

34. The Green Mile (1999)

35. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

36. The Lion King (1994)

37. Dracula (1931)

38. Halloween (1978)

39. Jurassic Park (1993)

And last by not least...

40. Mean Girls (2004)

I can't deny that I myself have only seen around half of these movies, but I am making it my goal to watch the rest of the ones on this list. If you haven't turned 40 or even if you passed that age a long time ago, make sure you check some of these films out. It is always good to culture yourself whether it be with films, art or even music.

You may learn to appreciate the older movies or even find out you enjoy the older films more. All these movies on the list have a good story plot and many may teach you a lesson. At least pick a couple to try and do not base all old movies on just one you watched and didn't like. My personal favorite is Star Wars. It may look weird or nerdy to you but once you watch it you'll realize what all the fuss is about.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
