I have one word to describe J. Cole's latest album: sultry.
4 Your Eyez Only has a sound that is old school with a futuristic flow. Lyrically, his songs are genius; referencing his meditation practice and belief in God. He mentions his newborn daughter in a lovely manner as well. He doesn't shy away from his past and acknowledges his hardships, and shows how far he's come on journey. Listening to this album creates a magical atmosphere. I could practice resorative Yoga to this album, and I could also dance.
I imagine that all kinds of people with different musical interests could enjoy the songs featured in 4 Your Eyez Only.
Whoever made the decision to add saxophones and violins is brilliant. And whoever made the decision to release the album in December is a smart man or woman. The sound and vibe in these songs have a beautiful Christmas-like essence. If you listen to the album, you may find that it sounds like snowflakes falling. Whether you live in a place where it snows or not, you could play this album with a warm cup of tea, close your eyes and take in all the wintertime vibes this album has created.
This is definitely an album I'll be dancing around in my living room to.
