4 Weird Attachments I Have To My Favorite Netflix Series

Why do I get so obsessed with these shows?

Every once in a while, I get hooked on a series on Netflix. Usually it’s not even a newer show, I simply end up watching something that has been around for years and I find myself absolutely loving it. My obsession with Netflix began a couple of years ago when my mom and I started watching "Sherlock" and has since grown from there. Recently I’ve been watching "House", which stopped filming years ago, but I’m absolutely hooked on the show. As with most other series I watch, I’ve developed an arbitrary attachment to the show.

Here are some examples:

1. I get unnecessarily offended when it gets low ratings.

When I think a certain show is awesome, I have a tendency to think that everyone else must feel the same way. So when I see that it’s gotten low ratings on Netflix, I get strangely offended by it. I wonder why other people can’t see how great the writing is, or the acting, or the story line!

2. I try to recruit other people to watch the show.

If a friend or even my parents haven’t seen a show that I like, I will automatically try to get them to watch it. For the most part, we have similar tastes in television, so I figure that they’ll like it as well.

3. I feel oddly upset when my friends don’t share my appreciation for the show.

When I do eventually convince someone to watch one of my favorite shows, I obviously hope that they like it. But if they don’t, I feel personally offended for some reason. Logically, I know that it doesn’t make sense, but my ridiculous obsession isn’t rational either.

4. I binge watch it until I finish the entire series.

I can’t be like a normal person and limit the amount of TV I watch. I will either not watch anything, or I will marathon a series in a couple of days. There seems to be no middle ground with me and I’m kind of embarrassed about it. I covered around five seasons of House in two and a half weeks, which is not something I am extremely proud to admit. However, I can’t stop myself from watching more so I’ll keep watching until I finish the entire show.

My attachment to shows on Netflix isn’t unique, there’s a ton of people out there who are like me in that they have series that they obsess over. So if anyone is wondering if they’re alone in their crazed fascination with a certain show, know that I’m the same way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
