Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14 of each year where people show their love and appreciation for one another; specifically a significant other. Many ponder on how to prepare for the day whether they have a significant other to spend it with or not. Listed below are some ways to plan the day.

1. Plan ahead

Restaurants tend to get booked in advance on this day. So, if you are planning to go out to eat with your significant other, don’t forget to make a reservation ahead of time. Some places get booked up to a few months in advance. There also might be a lot of traffic on this day just because people are getting last minute gifts and more couples are going out than usual. In that case, leave a little early if you have somewhere to be.

2. Always get a gift

You should no doubt always get some type of gift for your valentine. It doesn’t have to be store-bought or name brand. A hand-made gift will do if you don’t have the extra money this month to spend for this non-reserved holiday. It’s always the thought and effort that counts. No matter what, it will be meaningful.

3. Go out with your friends

Who said Valentine’s Day is just for people who have a special someone? Valentine’s day could also be to appreciate and spend it with the people you love. Go out and have fun if you want.

4. Stay at home

If you want to avoid the “lovey-dovey” surroundings and don’t want to be on a waiting list to eat, just stay home. Whether you are celebrating or not, it’s not necessary to go out and celebrate. You can set your own romantic and cozy dinner in the comfort of your own home, or you can just enjoy it as a normal day. All that matters is that you spend the day how you want and with whom you want.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
