If you're an American who is upset with the results of the recent election, you're not alone. Thousands of other citizens are disappointed in the outcome, but let's face it, nothing has happened yet that warrants such drastic protests. Even though we're entitled to protest when we feel there has been an injustice, there are other things you could be doing that are forms of protest and don't disrupt life as usual. Especially when none of our rights as Americans have been taken away.

Here are just a few things you can do:

1. Volunteer.

Actions speak louder than words, right? I mean, that's the whole point of protests. What better way to protest than to volunteer for the organizations that Trump is against? Planned Parenthood and The Trevor Project are always open for volunteers and sometimes they also post job opportunities. Become a member of your local NAACP Unit, or find another local civil rights organization to join. Support the communities that are most vulnerable under Trump & Pence's America.

2. Vote In Other Elections.

The presidential election isn't the only election on the books. Senate and House of Representative elections are just as important as the Presidential elections because they are the people who pass or block the potential laws a president proposes. These elections are often looked over and ignored, but they're the ones we should pay the most attention to. Find the candidates that support your beliefs and vote for them. They're your real hope of getting what you want out of our government.

3. Be Involved In Your Community.

Whether this means your neighborhood, school, or online communities, be active. Share your thoughts and beliefs, but be respectful and hear out the people who might not agree with you. Participate in rallies and support cultural events like parades or festivals. Participate in the #NotMyPresident social media campaign. Protests don't have to be disruptive. They can be as simple as wearing a safety pin.

4. Believe It Will Get Better.

When you spread positive vibes, you'll get them back. Having a generally optimistic outlook on the future will help others. I know that, right now, it seems discouraging because your hope is being met with constant negativity. Don't let the general negativity get you down. Things will calm down once the shock factor wears off, and everything will be fine. Just keep believing.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
