Spring has sprung and it is time to make changes to your life. Almost an entire school year has passed and your life may be confusing and disorganized and you are in need of some alterations. This past Sunday I woke up and looked around my room and felt dismayed of how it appeared. I decided that before I began my homework I had to clean. Otherwise, I would not focus on my work and instead end up wasting my time watching TV. This is how I decided to spring clean my life.
1. Deep clean.
While the process for some might be gross, considering all the dust you find, cleaning can be a very therapeutic task. If I walk into my room and it is messy then I won’t be able to sit down and focus on doing my work. If my bed isn’t made then I will plop myself in bed instead of sitting at my desk completing the work I have to do.
Remake your bed, take everything off your desk, and wipe it all down. Windex your windows, dust the top of your closet and every place possible that could have dust. Not only will seeing all the dust disappear, it will also ease your mind. You may not realize it but cleaning is a great way to help your mental health. Turn on music, let your thoughts escape you, and focus on that moment.
2. Organize.
This kind of goes hand in hand with the deep cleaning, however, this step takes place after you clean. Whenever I clean my room I usually begin by making a mess then organizing everything back to its position. At this step, consider rearranging your room. There is a feeling you get when you rearrange your room that is so motivating. It is something new – usually, change makes you feel better and inspires you to continue to work harder. Even something as small as moving your desk to a different wall can spark a feeling of excitement that makes you ready to move forward.
3. Make a new routine.
I am someone who usually has a routine for just about every day. I wake up, brush my teeth and wash my face, then pour Reese's Puffs in my mouth. Yes, it is a simple routine, but it helps me start the day off on the right foot. There is something in my life that is always the same, however, when you make a new routine, make it different. This could simply be going to the gym on a day to day basis or calling your parents more often.
4. Find things in your life you can change.
There are always things in your life that you need to change. It could be little tasks like waking up earlier and setting aside time for planning and self-reflection or bigger tasks, like always remembering to be present and in the moment. These changes will help with how you feel about yourself and how confident you portray yourself to others.
