4 Ways To Lose Weight While Helping Out The Environment

Summertime is around the corner, and everyone is at the edge of their seats waiting to jump at the opportunity to be outside. The most common reaction to summertime is to shed a little bit of weight, which means driving to the gym and purchasing all sorts of supplements.

The butterfly effect of summer is having so much trash that fill the landfills with mountains of plastic packaging from unnecessary purchases. Once the plastic sits in the hot sun, it starts to release toxic chemicals into our air, water, and soil. Typically during the summer months, air and garage pollution reach their peak. With long hours of sunlight and stagnant air, it's no wonder why it gets harder to breathe. As an asthmatic, any change in the air takes a drastic toll on my day to day life, and even if you don't feel it, it's taking one on you as well. So I decided to share a few ways to get fit and help the environment all at the same time.

1. Bigger booty by biking.

Seems to be the new trend to have a firmer, rounder, bigger booty. Everybody wants it, but if you're like me and don't see the need in paying for it, then I think you should hop on a bike. Cars account for 75 percent of carbon monoxide pollution in the U.S., according to the EPA, and they also account for one third of the air pollution as a whole according to the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF).

If your destination is less than 10 miles away, I recommend biking. Bike to work, gym, even doctors appointments! At first it will seem difficult, but let me tell you, after a few weeks you'll be looking all kinds of fine.

If you're thinking, "Where can I find an affordable bike?" Well, there are plenty of cheap options. I would suggest your local police station, as they tend to have auctions for all the bikes that they collect during that year; locally owned bike shops tend to have good deals as well. But make sure to get a bike with gears!

2. Toned arms thanks to gardening.

It's no secret that plants literally give us life, but I bet you didn't know that gardening could also give you some toned arms. Instead of buying veggies and fruits, why not plant some of your own? With you in control, there is no need to worry about GMOs or harmful pesticides, and it is always nice to know exactly what is going inside your body.

Not only will gardening help you out physically on the inside and out but it will help you mentally. It gives you some time to really kick back and enjoy the beautiful earth around you. There is nothing better than spending time in clean cut, unsaturated reality to cleanse your soul.

3. Trim that waist with water.

It's 2016 and people are still unnecessarily using plastic bottled water! Yes, I know it's a shock, because I'm sure if you're still reading at this point in the article, you are probably not one of those people. But for those who still do please for the love of everything that is green on this earth, buy a reusable bottle—preferably glass. When you get a reusable bottle, try to get one with awesome motivational quotes on it or one that measures your water intake.

Of course, I'm not saying to drink straight tap water; you can always get yourself a filtered water pitcher or even a filter directly connected to your faucet. Water is basically nature's solvent; it is necessary to be well-hydrated in order for your body to break down the food you eat and to generally keep your digestive system working regularly. So if you're trying to lose weight, proper hydration is a must. When you stop falling into the capitalistic trap that is bottled water, not only do you save large amounts of money, but you also get that waist tight and all types of right.

4. Give up red meat and dairy.

At this point, I have most likely lost most of your attention because we have been programmed to think that we need dairy and red meat. I am not saying to give up all meat, but yes, I am saying give up red meat—especially beef.

Cows cause air pollution because of their farts. Your probably think, "So what? Who cares about burps and farts?" But when there are over 1.5 billion cows burping and farting on the planet, there starts to be a problem. Cows create methane gas when they digest food. When they burp they release that gas into the environment, which then ruins the ozone layer according to Science Line. Giving up cow and all cow products means you will shed some serious weight. You don't need milk, and you sure as hell don't need cheese. So if you're trying to look like a dime piece, give it up and leave the cows alone.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
