While you are in the midst of recovering from the past couple months of tests and homework, take some free time between your summer job and kick back, relax and start a new TV show! Can't choose from the millions of shows out there? Don't worry... I've got you covered.
1. "The Americans"
Currently in its fourth season, "The Americans" follows Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys), parents who -- from the outside -- seem to be typical Americans living in D.C. during the 1980s, but they are hiding a big secret from their coworkers and children. The parents are undercover KGB spies (aka the Soviet CIA). The show focuses on the parent's attempt to balance this undercover identity with their "American" identity.
2. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"
"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" follows Kimmy, a 30-something-year-old who, after having been rescued from spending 15 plus years of her life trapped in an underground bunker, decides to move to the Big Apple. The show focuses on Kimmy's attempt to better integrate herself into a society that she has long been isolated from. As she has been shut out from the outside world for many years, Kimmy finds excitement and happiness in things that people of this day and age sometimes take for granted. Though, for many, the show may seem dumb, in reality, it is a breath of fresh air. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is exciting, hilarious, eventful and most importantly an awesome show to come home to after a stressful or busy day.
3. "30 Rock"
After having been told year after year to watch this show, I can finally say that I have found time to get around to it. Like "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," it is a humorous, fun and great show to watch after a long day at work. The show follows the backstage "shenanigans" that is the taping of T.V. shows. The show specifically follows Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), a writer at a fictitious NBC comedy show, as she is faced with both the challenges of her work life and personal life.
4. "Orange Is the New Black"
Based on a true story of Piper Kerman, "Orange is the New Black" follows Piper, (Taylor Schilling) a 30-something-year-old, whose life gets turned upside down when she is sentenced to time in a prison for activities she was involved in over eight years ago. The show focuses on Piper's interaction with her fellow inmates as well as different inmate's day-to-day lives in the prison. Though, at times, the show can be very explicit, it is a favorite for many and is overall very enjoyable to watch. I have to say that the community that is formed between this "delinquents" is almost #SquadGoals.
So, when you find yourself with some spare time over the summer, make sure to check out these 4 awesome shows. You will be sorry if you don't.
