The only thing you want to do when your sick is curl up in your nice, comfy bed and watch T.V. all day. When you're in college, you've got to put your "big girl panties" on and do five assignments due at midnight, take three tests, and study for whatever pop-quiz you might have tomorrow. Not only do you have an ungodly amount of homework to do, but you have to go to class because you have that one professor with a dumb attendance policy that only allows you to miss three classes out of the 30 classes you meet before you fail.
Of course no one likes being sick, but let me tell you being sick in college is probably the worst thing ever. You don't have your mom to make you soup or whatever your favorite "sick" meal is, life doesn't seem to slow down even though your body physically has, and you have to go to the doctor by yourself (which I don't know about you, but I hate). When you do get sick while in college, here are a few tips that I've found that will help you get through this little "funk".
1. Email all of your professors as soon as you possibly can.
Even though you might only get a "regard the syllabus" email, sometimes you might tug a heartstring on a professor about how you couldn't make it out of bed to walk to your 8 a.m.
2. Sleep in your free time.
Seriously, sleep sleep sleep sleep sleep while you can. Your friends will understand why you won't be at the next house party or why you couldn't make it to Saturday brunch. Sleep so your body can readjust itself and get better.
3. Drink plenty of fluids.
I can't stress this enough. Personally, I tend to get dehydrated whenever I'm feeling under the weather, so I always load up on vitamin C and water.
4. Remember to eat as well.
Just because you have a loss of appetite doesn't mean that you still don't need to eat. Even if it's just a saltine cracker, make sure you don't take your medication on a empty stomach. Trust me.... been there, done that. Never planning on doing it again.
Even though being sick in college sucks, it doesn't mean that it has to be the end of the world. Get better, still study hard, and get those grades you deserve!.
