4 Tips for Keeping Your Home Comfortable and Healthy While Working From Home

Remote work has now become the norm. Whether you anticipate on going back to the office or staying home, you now need to figure out how to make your new work space comfortable. At first, being able to work in your pajamas and get a snack whenever you want may sound great. Yet, you can also find that it gets harder to do your job right unless you get organized. These four tips will help you keep your home comfortable so that you are less likely to be stuck dealing with preventable distractions.

Identify the Ideal Office Area

Trying to field phone calls and make video presentations can get a little uncomfortable if your kids run screaming through the house or if you have roommates distracting you with conversation. If possible, choose a quiet part of your house where you can do your work. You'll like knowing that everything is set up the way you like it, and you won't have those cringe-worthy moments when someone makes a big noise in the background.

Maintain a Comfortable Temperature

The temperature of your home makes a huge difference in your productivity. If it gets too hot, then you won't be able to focus on your work. Rising temperatures can also cause you to feel more tired than normal. Since you are home anyway, then now is the time to update your AC system. If your current system has been lagging along, then an AC installation can help your workspace feel professional and comfortable. You can be confident that your work day won't be interrupted by problems with climate control.

Set Up an Ergonomic Work Station

At first, sitting on the couch seems like the most comfortable way to work ever. However, it only takes a few hours of hunching over your laptop to begin to feel the effects. Set up an ergonomic work station that allows you to maintain good posture. You'll feel better sitting at a proper desk with a chair. If you don't currently have these supplies, save up for them now.

Add a Few Special Touches

Since you are home, you might as well embrace it. No one is going to know if you're wearing slippers or enjoying your favorite snack while you run reports. Set your work station up with a few things that make it extra comfy such as cozy lap blanket on your office chair or a picture of your family on the desk.

Your home might be set up for sleeping at night, but you'll begin to notice the little things that are wrong once you are there for longer hours. Fixing broken appliances and making minor adjustments to your work space will ensure that you can keep working your normal hours.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
