4 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Sooner

When starting to list things that I wish someone told me in my younger years I realize that to some these might be lessons that need to be learned by doing rather than teaching; some of life's little lessons if you want to call it that. I also know that everyone has their own story to tell and their own lessons they learn from it, a bit of their own personal wisdom on life. We all get up and look at life in a different way, carrying our knowledge with us and using it everyday. In my short twenty-one years on earth I feel like I have learned a few key lessons, that help me along the way.

1. Don't Sweat The Small Stuff

It means 'no worries' right? Okay so this one might be a little cliche and you're thinking "well no duh." but sometimes that's hard to remember when you got a bunch of small things adding up to feel like one big thing. So at times it is important to remember to take a breath and clear your mind and look at the small stuff from a new point of view. After all "This too shall pass".

2. It's Okay To Stand Out

This is a big one I wish I would of learned while I was still in high school. You don't have to wear something just because everyone else is, or feel and/or have an opinion about something just because everyone else does. It's okay to wear what you want to wear and feel how you want to feel, even if it's the opposite of what everyone else is doing. It's okay to stand out.

3. Don't Try And Make Temporary People Perminent

Of course really no one wants to be alone or feel alone but sometimes it's for the best. There is always been this qoute I've enjoy and I'm not sure who said it but it says "You can't make homes out of humans." and I think that is one of the most important things anyone has said. Sometimes we hold on to people that are no good for us, often because we want to see the person we thought they were not the person they really are. So learn to let go of those people and know everyone is either a lesson or a blessing; and it's okay to miss them but know you're life is better off without them.

4. Nothing Before Your Own Happiness

If any of you are anything like me if can be easy to put others and other things before yourself and your own happiness. It seems that often I have to remind myself that nothing or no one is worth forfitting your happiness for. Of course there are going to be days where you aren't feeling happiness because really no one is happy 24/7 but your general happiness is worth so much more than anything else. At the end of the day only you are in control of your happiness so it's up to you take care of yourself to maintain it.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
