4 Things I Want To Thank My High School Teachers For

As I make my way into college this month, i have been thinking a lot about high school and how lucky i was when it came to my teachers. As i talk to others from different schools i hear about the teachers and how mean some may be. During my four years, i never complained about my teachers because there was no reason to. High school was a great experience for me, and my teachers played a huge part in that. I have been in classrooms where the teacher is completely disrespected by students, and i dont understand why or the reasoning behind it when most of the teachers go above and beyond for their students.

High school can be some of the best days of your life. Having teachers who have the best personalities make it 10 times better. I've had my fair share of great teachers. Here are four things I'd like to thank them for:

1. Thank you for continuously seeing potential in me.

No matter how many good or bad grades I deserved, you never stopped trying with me. You always saw potential in all your students and always put your 100 percent into everything. Even for the students that did not want to be in school or only went to school to give you attitude, you always tried.

2. Thank you for always putting in time and effort to help me understand the lesson.

At times I can be a very slow learner, but you always made sure that if your students needed help, to simply ask. Even when I asked the same question over and over again, you would never let me leave unless I knew what I was doing. So thank you for having patience. I know I wouldn't be able to do what you do.

3. Thank you for making my long school days less boring.

During the long school days, you always had the students laughing and being social. You made learning fun by including games and group work. Luckily, school wasn't just sitting in a desk all day learning about things nobody cared about but instead, the lessons were introduced in a fun and active way.

4. Thank you for always being a listening ear.

People often see teachers as people who teach your children and send them long pages of homework to do. That's far from the truth. They become your role model and a friend. I personally always felt comfortable going to my teachers for everything, whether it was problems I was having in school or just every day problems I was having.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
