4 Things to Do Over Summer Break

It's finally summer.

4 Things to Do Over Summer Break
Liz Abere

For most college students, summer break is the best and longest break of the entire year. During this break, most of us have all of the time in the world to do whatever our little hearts desire without facing any consequences. At some point or another, we're eventually going to get bored and not know what to do with our lives. With the help of this listicle, your boredom that never seems to go away might actually go away for once.

Take a summer class.... or four.

Although you're probably tired of your college and its shit after dealing with classes in both the fall and spring semesters (and even over winter break if you're that ambitious), taking classes over the summer will only benefit you in the long run. Not only are the professors usually better and more lenient just because it's the summer, but the tuition is usually cheaper than it would be during the school year and also, the summer semesters are much shorter than the regular semesters. The summer is the best time to take those required classes that you've been dreading to take, but know that you need to take or else you won't be graduating. Another benefit of taking summer classes is that you could potentially graduate early. Who wouldn't want that?

Find a seasonal job.

Going into the new school year with some extra money in your pockets could only benefit you in the long run. Given that most of us are broke while in college, having some money to rely on during the school year would be a major blessing for those times when you're really hungry and out of money on your meal plan, or for when you want to go do something fun with your friends.

Relax and spend most of your time at the beach.

If you're going to do this, don't be like me and actually make some form of an effort to use sunscreen AND aloe before heading to the beach. The weather will be warm enough to spend so much time at the beach, which makes it a good opportunity to either work on that tan that you've been wanting for the longest time or to just chill with friends and family with a view. While on the beach, you could have a mini picnic, a jam session, play some sports, and so much more. After working so hard this past semester, you deserve some time to just relax and have some fun before things go from zero to a hundred in the blink of an eye.

Catch up on some sleep... and with friends.

Chances are, you're absolutely exhausted from this school year. You've probably never felt as sleep deprived as you feel right now and would want to sleep the rest of your life away if you possibly could do so. Although getting enough sleep is extremely important for your overall wellbeing, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't make time to go see your friends. Most likely, you and your friends have spent months apart from each other, so it would be nice to see them and see how things are going with them. You may have been talking to your friends all throughout the course of the semester, but nothing beats actually seeing their gorgeous faces.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
