This past weekend I visited a friend who goes to Appalachian State University. I am not a mountain person at all so I was nervous about how I would enjoy my time there. At the end of the weekend, I found myself to really enjoy the town of Boone, North Carolina, and there are so many things to do. These are four simple things to do in Boone, North Carolina, to ease you into the way of life here.
1. Going to King St.
King Street in Boone has lots of cool shops and restaurants for you to enjoy. There is a big hippie vibe in Boone, but it’s really cool to embrace. One restaurant in particular is Our Daily Bread, that is the perfect lunch spot. Go there for really good sandwiches and soups. And of course you have to go to Macado’s for a very good cinnamon roll.
2. Appalachian Cookie Co.
This was honestly the best cookie that I have had ever. They have lots of flavors ranging from cheesecake to mint double chocolate chip. You order them over the phone and then go and pick up warm, fresh cookies that are crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. Just the way a cookie should be right?
3. Blue Ridge Parkway
This is something that is a must do when you go to Boone, North Carolina. It’s the perfect thing to do on a Sunday or any day that is nice and sunny. Going on the parkway you get to see all of Boone from a really high level. There are multiple overlooks with lakes, ponds, and campgrounds. I really suggest this to anyone who likes the outdoors, and even if you don’t like the outdoors you can enjoy this as well. Don’t be intimidated by the drive up the mountain either. Yes, it is a little scary but it is ally worth it in the end.
4. Find A Good Show/DJ
There is tons of talent in Boone just waiting for you to explore. Get with your friends and find a local band that plays and check them out! I was skeptical of this at first because I am very picky with my music but I became a little more open. This is a great thing to do for a fun night out with friends and a great way to meet new people.
So those are the four things that I enjoyed doing while I was in Boone, North Carolina. I am sure there is so much more to do; however that it is what I could fit in the weekend. For someone who was very skeptical about going to the mountains, I can say that my opinion has changed. So give Boone a try if you ever have the chance and I promise you will not be disappointed.
