4 Things To Do Before It's Too Late

You aren't getting any younger.

4 Things To Do Before It's Too Late
Peter Greenberg

You would be lying to yourself if you said you don’t get caught up in the routines of our busy, often chaotic lives. Heck, I can’t even remember the last time I wasn’t stressed about something. We often blindly navigate through life, too focused on work or school to realize that time is passing fast. Before you know it, you’ll be too old and wrinkly to do all of those unchecked boxes on your bucket list. So my question for you is: Why wait? Is your mundane life just too much fun to abandon? The whole world is literally standing in front of you, waiting for you to grab it by the horns. There is so much to experience, and your life is not getting any longer, so here are a few things you should try to do before it’s too late:

1.Travel to those distant places you’ve always wished to see

If you could go to the airport and hop on a flight to anywhere in the world, where would you go? Would you want to have a tranquil getaway in the exotic islands of Santorini? An adventurous expedition to the peaks of Mt. Everest? A brilliant scuba dive through the magnificent oceans off the coast of Indonesia? Wherever your curiosity may take you, you will see that the world has much more to offer than the predictable, monotonous schedule you’re most likely following at the moment.

2. Fall in love with something

Big or small, find something that you love, and I mean really love. Go for a walk and fall in love with your surroundings. Experiment with new foods until you find something that makes your taste buds jump with joy. Get to know someone—a friend, a family member, a stranger. Learn their ins and outs and learn to love every little detail. There are so many things to fall in love with if you just open your eyes.

3. Get the body you’ve always wanted

Life is way too short to be uncomfortable in your own skin. If you’re anything like me, you constantly wish for that hot bod, but you’re too lazy or unmotivated to actually make it happen. Although it’s a tough process, achieving your goal body will help you be more confident and care-free.

4.Try something you would NEVER see yourself doing

I don’t know about you, but for me, staying in my comfort zone is what I do best. However, as scary as it may seem, stepping outside of that comfort zone can be rewarding as well as exhilarating. Force yourself to do that spur-of-the-moment, crazy activity that always sparked your interest. Go sky diving, bungee jumping, zip lining, etc. Not only will it make you feel alive, but it will also show you that you can accomplish anything when you push your fears aside.

In this day and age, it’s so easy to just get caught up in the motions. However, pushing yourself to experience new things and stop taking life for granted will do nothing less than better you as a person. Don’t go through life with a bunch of “what ifs." Live your life with no regrets. The world is your oyster, so reach out and grab it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
