4 Things To Remember Before You Get A Puppy In College

Earlier this year, I got a puppy as my birthday present. I absolutely love him. He makes me very happy and my whole family adores him, but having a puppy in college is a lot of work. There is also a huge different between having a puppy in college and having a dog in college. You need to be able to seriously commit time to a puppy because it is so little and training takes a lot of time. So here are some things you need to keep in mind before getting a puppy in college.

1. They have no concept of time

My puppy wakes me up at 6:15 every morning because he needs to go outside, and after that he is as playful as ever and ready to play. You might enjoy sleeping till 11 every Sunday morning but that wont happen with a puppy because you need to be up to supervise them.

2. They get into everything

A puppy is curious and playful so they will get into everything. Garbage, bedside tables, or whatever else they can find. You need to keep your house pretty clean or it will only end poorly for you. You'll need to supervise them or else they will get in trouble.

3. Potty training is hard

Potty training a puppy is hard. They need to be taken out every 30 minutes and even then, they will have accidents. If you get a puppy, do not expect to get your full security deposit back.

4. All kinds of training is hard

Getting a dog to listen to you is not an easy task. They will do what they want and training takes a lot of work and time (time that college kids do not always have).

Now don’t get me wrong, I'm not saying that getting a puppy in college is bad or that I regret it. I’m just saying that it takes a lot of work, and you need to be willing to dedicate a lot of time to it. I am a proud dog mom, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
