Wisconsinites tend to be empathetic and hardworking people who take pride in what their state has to offer: Summerfest, Noah's Ark, great fishing, beautiful scenery, excellent schools and more. However, like most people, there are some things they love to hate!
1. The Weather
Wisconsinites love to complain about the weather here. And why not? We're slipping on ice and being buffeted by freezing winds for over half the year, and yet, snow days are rarer than a RadioShack. And after winter, we have approximately 2.7 seconds of spring before it's suddenly burning hot outside. It's not all bad, though, as Wisconsin offers some pretty exhilarating winter sports, while the sweltering summers are also great for fishing and boating on the lakes.
2. The Chicago Bears
The rivalry between the Bears and the Packers is legendary. Packers fans relish poking fun at the Bears, and vice versa. Supporters of both teams, bedecked in NFL gear and two pounds of face paint, can look slightly ridiculous, but they're so passionate that it's great. It's fun to be part of a group and to have a common goal. In this case, that goal is to be better than the Bears in every way possible.
3. Cheese-Related Stereotypes
No, Wisconsin is not one big farm, and, yes, we do eat more than just cheese. Wisconsin is best known for its dairy, and there are no bigger perpetrators of the "cheesy" stereotypes that come with that status than Wisconsinites themselves! Just take a look at our foam cheese hats -- iconic. It's a testament to turning stereotypes into positive, unifying forces. And, cheese-related items make easy souvenirs that can also provide a few laughs!
4. That Small-Town Feel
Many young adults can't wait to "get out." Regardless of Wisconsin's size, its small towns and uneventful nature can make the state feel tiny. However, that same feature means that communities are often tightly-knit and supportive. And, by virtue of having so many suburbs and rural areas, Wisconsin has wonderful scenery. There is so much green, so many little woodland creatures, a bright sun and beautiful lakes. To top it off, there are also a multitude of historical sites around the state that are a point of pride for many.
Despite everything, Wisconsin really isn't a bad place to live and we know that Bears supporters aren't that bad either. And yet, Wisconsinites love to hate aspects of both. It's often complained about half-jokingly and used to unify our state. Because in spite of everyone's differing opinions and problems, we are all Wisconsinites!
