What my nephew, Beckham has taught me.

4 Things I've Learned From Being an Aunt

In light of my nephew's second birthday, I decided to reflect on the few things I've learned in my two short years as an Aunt.

People Will Think You're the Parent.

Beckham has been confused for my son several times before. I have received some looks strolling through the mall, or wherever else we are. Rest assured he is just my nephew, and I will be returning him to his parents as soon as possible.

Hold Them While They Let You

Parents, grandparents, and all the like experience this problem. When kids are small, they will want to be held all day. I now have to beg and plead with Beckham for a hug or for him to let me hold him for a fraction of a second. So, hold them while they are small!

Don't Skip the Birthday

Beckham's first birthday, I skipped a gameday weekend at college to come home. This year due to unfortunate circumstances with COVID, I was able to see him turn two.

Birthdays are such an important part of watching kids grow up. He may not remember that I was there, but I always will.

Always Have Snacks, or be Willing to Share Your Food

Beckham is a bottomless pit when it comes to food. He will never refuse a snack, and if you are eating he will "Mmm" at you until you share. I avoid this by feeding him until we can make fun of his belly. If you ask him to see it, he will usually show it to you.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
