- Don’t bring your whole wardrobe: When you are packing to come to college it is easy to fall into the trap of bringing everything you own. There are hundreds of what if situations that might run through your mind that you will use to justify bringing the strangest things. However, you must remember that dorm rooms are tiny, and packing light will be better in the long run than crowding the precious space in your room with unneeded clutter. This is especially true of clothes because unless you are someone who likes dressing up on the daily, you will probably just end up wearing whatever is comfiest and clean to class.
- Everyone is super friendly: Everyone tells you not to worry about making friends what you start college because everyone is in the same position that you are and this is true. Even if you aren’t a freshman, people in college are usually always open to having a conversation with you and getting to know you. So, don’t be afraid to reach out to other people!
- You can’t study for a test the night before (and do well): While in high school you might have had a test every other week that covered a chapter or two, and even if you didn’t do so great at least you had other grades to balance it out. Unfortunately, this is not the case in college. Not only are tests the majority of your grade, they also cover a lot more material. As a result, if you want to do well on an exam, studying the night before probably isn’t a good idea.
- You can and should be yourself: For some people, high school can be a judgmental place, but college doesn’t have to be this way. Colleges tend to be bigger and more diverse and as a result it can be easier to feel comfortable being yourself. Regardless of what you like and what you are interested in, there is someone else on the campus that must like the same things so don’t be scared to be who you truly are.
