Take this time to de-stress!

Thanksgiving break is, in one word, a godsend. One beautiful week to catch up on "me time" and avoid all responsibilities. If you're stuck on what to do with all of this time, here are four suggestions that you can fill your break with starting immediately.

1. Catch up on your Netflix addiction.

With shows like Stranger Things, American Horror Story, Gilmore Girls, and The Crown trending on Netflix, there are plenty of options to fill your time with over Thanksgiving break. Not to mention the fact that there are always plenty of other rom-coms, documentaries, dramas, and horror movies for your viewing pleasure.

2. Get some holiday shopping done.

As we all know, the holidays are right around the corner. There are gifts to buy, presents to wrap, and wish lists to make. What better time to start thinking up great gift ideas than during break? Additionally, Black Friday is coming up very shortly, so not only can you get all your friends and family their gifts, but you can get them on sale!

3. Reconnect with your friends

Hours of homework, college and scholarship applications, and 8 hours of school on top of it all can make it difficult to keep in contact with some of your closest friends. A week long break is the perfect time to plan some fun outings and catch up with people you've been missing. Take your BFF to lunch, schedule a squad hang-out, or face time with someone you haven't seen in a while. Solidifying your friendships and taking time to show people you care about them will be well worth it in the long run!

4. Take on some extra hours at work and bring in some bucks.

While working over break does not sound like a lot of fun, and it probably won't be the most entertaining thing you do all week, this is a great time to get some more money in your account. Whether you babysit for a couple of hours, grab an extra shift, or find a new, innovative way to bring home some bacon, it will be nice to have a little bit of spending money especially as the holidays draw nearer. May as well try to support the shopping and Netflix-ing you might find yourself doing this week!

No matter what you choose to do this break, use the time you have off from school to the fullest! Try to de-stress, do what makes you happy, and take a breather from your schoolwork, at least for a couple of days. Gear up for all the turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce you are going to gorge yourself on and for the finals season to come. Have a great Thanksgiving break!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that.
