Maintaining a clean room often seems like an impossible task, but below I will walk through 4 steps to achieving and sustaining a clean and tidy space.

1. Donate, Donate, Donate

We all seem to have so much stuff. I tend to hold onto things that I might need or that I might wear someday, and I can't be the only one. This is the most time consuming part of the cleaning process, but it feels great to get rid of all the stuff laying around that you don't need. Plus, donating these goods helps other individuals and the community as a whole.

2. Organize and give everything a place

Everything in your room/home should have a place. If you can't find a place for something, re-evaluate if that item is something you are going to keep. Once everthing has it's own place, it becomes easy to tidy things up and put everything away at the end of the day.

3. Make your bed every morning

For most bedrooms, the bed is the largest object in the room. Making the bed automatically makes the room feel tidier and more inviting, and creates a more pleasant atmosphere.

4. Clean up every night

This step is crucial to keeping a consistently clean room, and makes maintaining a clean room an actual possibility. By taking just 10 minutes each night before bed to clean up and put away anything left of from the day, your room will never get to the point of no return. This is the step I need to put into better practice, but when I do take a few minutes each day to keep my space clean, I'm always thankful for the tidy space to come back to each day.

Hopefully these four tips can help you maintain a clean and tidy space, reduce some stress, and create a more peaceful living space to come back to each day.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life.
