When you ask people about spring fashion, "pastels" and "florals" are the most common responses you will get, which totally makes sense. Flowers are in bloom, Easter egg window clings can be found almost everywhere, and everything just feels so fresh and new.
While there are plenty of stereotypical pastels and florals this spring, as per usual, fashion designers and directors everywhere know that some individuals don't have the coloring to pull off pale yellow or don't want flowers anywhere near their clothing.
Here are three hot spring trends that catch my eye and the stores that do them the best (and make my bank account cry a little in the name of fashion).
1. Hyper Romance at ASOS
ASOS aptly named the trend for exactly what it is -- dreamy shades of pink and nudes, fabulous florals and, of course, sparkles.
Buy: earrings, pink collared dress, embellished flats, heels, lace dress, hair clip.
Tip: If you want to pull this look off, but don't want to look straight out of a woodland fairy tale forest, toughen up the look by trading embellished shoes for combat boots or throw on a green canvas jacket over a flowery frock.
2. Seeing Denim at Gap
The key to wearing denim on denim is to mismatch the colors. Pairing a dark or medium wash with a light wash is the easiest way to go, but playing around with patchy jeans can take you from classic to cool.
Buy: dress, shoes, kimono jacket, patchwork jeans, bag.
Tip: If you're not a fan of the full-on denim on denim, mix key pieces, like a denim dress, with more subtle denim pieces, like colored or patterned jeans or denim shoes. Canvas totes or shoes also have a similar feel, but can be more versatile with colors and patterns.
3. Soft Ruffles and Sharp Pleats at Anthropologie
The two may be stark in comparison, but trust me: it's all about movement. These simple pieces are extremely versatile, ready to pair with the simplest t-shirt or staple pencil skirt in your closet.
Buy: handbag, cardigan, skirt, jacket, blouse, culotte pants.
Tip: When pairing multiple pieces with movement, stick with minimal accessories and shoes with clean or simple lines and a bright color, if the outfit is black, white and gray.
4. Can't Go Wrong Trend: Lace-up necklines
Elevates a simple outfit to edgy. I sincerely hope this becomes a new classic. This trend is everywhere and I am in love. Pair with jeans, shorts, leggings, dresses, you name it.
Buy: dress, henley.
