If you're anything like me when the weekend comes you are ready to get into your most comfortable pajamas, make a world of delicious snacks, and dive head first into a television show. Also, if you're like me you spend almost as long deciding what to watch as watching the show itself. This is time that should not be wasted. To avoid this egregious waste of valuable binge-ing time I have made a list of shows that fly a bit under the radar worth checking out on Netflix.
4. 'The Fall' (2013 - present)
'The Fall' is everything you want in a crime show and everything you never knew you needed. It follows a compelling story of a killer from two different perspectives. Detective Super Intendant Stella Gibson (played by the brilliant Gillian Anderson of the 'X-Files'), and the other Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan of 'Once Upon A Time') a father, a husband, and as we soon find out, a serial killer. Stella Gibson is hot on his trail in this provocative game of cat and mouse that will leave you questioning everything you thought that you knew! (Overdramatic, I know.) This show has had two seasons and the third should be coming sometime in 2016 so catch up now!
3. 'Nurse Jackie' (2007 - 2015)
'Nurse Jackie' is a dramedy by every definition of the word. Although it is sometimes categorized as a comedy, it is clear with its emotionally hard-hitting stories addressing addiction, and its penchant for wit and comedic timing, that this is in every sense of the made-up word, a dramedy. It stars Edie Falco, nine-time nominee, and two-time winner of the Golden Globe. With those stats you know she has the serious chops to pull off the fantastic Nurse Jackie Peyton. Her sharp wit in contrast with Zoey Barkow's (Merritt Weaver) subtle humor makes for a show worth watching.
2. 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' (2015 - present)
'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' may be one of the more popular shows right now, but to leave it out of this list would be blasphemy. 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' starring Rachel Bloom premiered on the CW in the fall of 2015. A musical comedy with sharp wit, a true pleasure each second that it graces a television screen. The story of 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' begins with our protagonist, Rebecca, wanting to shake up her highfalutin New York attorney lifestyle and move to West Covina, California. Oh, did I mention that her childhood fling just happens to live there? 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' has an astounding soundtrack, and all of season one is waiting for you on Netflix! Season two returns to the CW Friday, October 21st at 9 p.m. ET.
1. 'Galavant' (2015 - 2016)
'Galavant' is phenomenal. When it first flitted to the screen in 2015 I was befuddled at how a show could do what 'Galavant' was doing. I would describe it as a medieval musical comedy, with a modern day sense of humor. Never have I known a show to know it's own tone and audience so completely. Galavant's fantastic run was cut short only at two seasons but now there is a prospect for Netflix to renew it. That means even more binge-able material to come! Bonus: The music for this show is written by Alan Menken, whom you may be familiar with through the piles and piles of glorious Disney music he has given us. Get to watching!
Happy Binge-ing!
