Montclair State University is home to over 20,000 undergraduate students and nearly 4,000 graduate students. The ethnically diverse campus sets it aside from many other public universities in the state of New Jersey. Aside from it's prestigious academic programs and Red Hawk athletics, the campus provides students with state of the art facilities in a safe and conveniently beautiful location. These are just 4 of the reasons Montclair State ranks 7th in public Northern Regional Universities per U.S. News.
1. Dorms
The newest dorms, "The Heights" are beautiful. They vary from the traditional freshman dorms and offer single bedrooms to those who need extra privacy for various reasons such as organization, performance in academics, and quiet time. The facilities are equipped with study rooms on every floor making it easy to study with classmates. The kitchen in the first floor lounge with full size appliances makes it easy for students to prepare meals or even late night snacks. The dorm buildings are well kept by the maintenance staff and cater to every student's needs.
2. Safety
With the MSU police station located on campus, any emergency is immediately dealt with. The university police provide students with an escort system for those who may feel unsafe on campus throughout dark hours. A student can call the station and request an escort. The escort meets the student and walks them to their destination. The dorm buildings have "check-in" desks which requires students to sign in their guests, regulating who enters the building. No one is permitted to enter the building without a valid college or state issued ID. Although this may seem like a burden to some, it's an important concept to keep the students safe in their living spaces.
3. Scenery
The hills on the MSU campus provide a different, unique scenery than most college campuses. Fall, winter, spring and summer bring various colors to campus. The new science building has a walkway and seating benches to admire the NYC skyline. While working out on the top floor of the Recreation Center, students can peer through the windows and see the skyline as well.
4. Location
The MSU campus stretches across 3 towns: Little Falls, Upper Montclair, and Clifton. Buses make frequent stops at MSU that travel to NYC which opens up opportunities for internships, jobs, sight seeing, and study breaks. The 2 train stations on campus make it easy for students and staff to travel to many different destinations and explore various places in the north jersey area. The campus is located close to many restaurants, parks, museums, and other colleges.
