4 Reasons Why Dogs Are Truly Man's Best Friend

We have all heard it before, "Dogs are man's best friends." There is an extreme amount of truth behind this statement. Growing up, I've had my fair share of dogs which allowed me to truly grasp the meaning of this saying. Here are four reasons why dogs are truly man's best friend.

1. They are always happy to see you.

Whether you've been gone for 5 hours or 5 minutes, they will always be overjoyed to see you. My grandparents' dogs usually go insane whenever one of us walks into the house. You would think that we haven't seen them in days. Knowing that you have a dog to come home to that will actually be happy to see you, automatically puts you into a better mood. Your dog doesn't care if you look rough or stink from your rough day at work, they just want to see their owner, their best friend. No matter the day, they will always greet you with the same happiness every time.

2. They will always be there to listen.

If you want to recite a poem you've been working on for your poetry class or just need to vent, they will be there. Since they cant' talk back, it's truly the best scenario. They will never tell anyone your secrets or spill the beans on who you like, so you know you can count on them to just listen. They will make you laugh by doing something stupid just to brighten up your mood. My grandparents' dogs have a "dog gone wild" run around the table that always gets us laughing.

3. Whenever you feel down, they will be there to comfort you.

We go through so many emotions daily that sometimes when you're down and out, a nice long cuddle with your dog could do the trick of lifting your spirits. I know that I miss coming home to my dog and just laying down with her cuddled up on the couch. You will immediately start feeling better just because you have your best friend laying with you. Whenever a friend cancels plans, you can always count on your dog to be there to comfort you and have movie night together.

4. They will always be there to finish that last bite of food.

We all know that dogs love human food way more than their food. Whether you are just snacking or eating a full course meal, you will always have someone to finish whatever you can't. Honestly, who even needs a dishwasher when they will lick your plate clean?

I can truly say that dogs will forever be man's best friend. No matter your mood, they will love you endlessly. As a man once said, "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, until the last beat of his heart."

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
