Service Men and Women have served their country for many years. But with doing that brings their children to struggle with many things, just like I did and as child. These four things were the hardest things that I had to go through myself as a child due to my parent being in the armed forces.
1. Moving to a new place.
Usually people live in 1-2 places their entire lives, but I usually stay in a place between 2-4 years. You never get used to moving around and you get very tired of telling people where you are from and telling people where you have moved to. You never call a place home until your parent retires or you go off to college and move out of the house.
2. Leaving your friends behind.
When living at a place you make a lot of friends. Even calling them your best friends, but soon you lose that friendship when it's time to move. Moving to a new place means being the shy person every time you meet someone new or trying. I was always the shy person when meeting new people and I would try to fit in to how everyone is at my new home. I would join clubs and try out for sports team at my school, but sometimes I felt like because I am new trusting people was going to be very hard.
3. Deployment
It is always hard saying goodbye to your parent for deployment, whether it is for a month or two years. You always have to wait for your parent to call you or you can try to email them and see if they answer. You never want to see them go or say goodbye.
4. School.
When moving to a new place there is always bound to be new curriculum and new courses students learn at the school. You could be behind everyone or you could be totally ahead of everyone. It all depends on what they are learning and how fast they go on a topic. Sometimes, even though I might be ahead or behind I get lost or confused because some teachers teach with different techniques and I would end up being the one who asks a lot of questions.
Even though I struggled with these four things, I would never changed the way I grew up. I got to experience different cultures and got to visit some amazing places. I am thankful that I could look up to my father and always thank him for doing what he does.
To every service men and women, I would like to thank them for everything that they do by serving our country.
