Many people may be skeptical about traveling to South America. However, it actually is a very safe place to travel to with endless beautiful sights to see. My family and I recently got back from Colombia, and I would highly recommend anyone visit if they receive the opportunity. Although there are countless things I loved about this country, these are just a few that have me missing it already.
1. The beaches.
The northern coast of Colombia had some of the most beautiful beaches and sunsets I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. The water was the perfect temperature, the waves weren’t too rough, and there were a variety of affordable activities to do without ever having to leave it. Although my family didn’t take part in all of them, we had the option to fish, jet ski, swim with dolphins, etc. It was additionally much more affordable than it would be in America or a Caribbean island. You could never run out of things to do.
2. The lifestyle.
Once you land in Colombia, you will quickly notice the difference in lifestyle in comparison to many places in the United States. Many people lead a simple life and are perfectly happy with it. Some may look at them and say they are “poor” and feel sorry for them, however, these people are actually perfectly content. Many live in very small houses just a short walk from the beach with very little technology and certainly no Internet. This allows them to place an even stronger emphasis on family and friends. They are able to spend more time together listening to music and dancing, going for walks, or taking a trip into the city.
3. The food.
Not only is the food of Colombia delicious, it is also extremely cheap. No matter if my family and I were ordering steak, fresh fish, or other typical Colombian dishes, we were able to leave every restaurant satisfied for a very small cost. Another incredible option we had, though it many disgust many, was street food. Even with six mouths to feed, our dinner spendings rarely exceeded $30...including alcohol. It was some of the best food I have ever eaten.
4. Family.
Since my dad was born in Colombia, there are many relatives we have over there that I had never met before this trip. In Colombian culture, even third or fourth cousins treat you like immediate family. If you have family over there that is extremely distant, I encourage you to visit them. Even though it may seem strange since you have never met before, if they are anything like my family they will welcome you with open arms. Additionally, they already know the country well enough to show you around. They can do things from showing you the best places to go sight seeing to how to tell if you are paying a decent price for souvenirs.
