Four Reasons Why "Toddlers And Tiaras" Is My Guilty Pleasure

I hate that I love this show.

"Toddlers and Tiaras." The popular TLC reality show that documents the world of child beauty pageants. I remember, when this show first premiered, I refused to watch it because I thought the idea of parading your child on stage in heavy makeup and skimpy clothing was disgusting.

One day there was absolutely nothing on TV and I saw "Toddlers and Tiaras" was on. I didn't want to do it. I tried not to click the select button on my remote control, but I did.

Worst (best) decision ever!

It was crazy seeing little girls look like mini 20-year-old women. Though I did not agree with what was going on while watching the show, I couldn't bring myself to change the channel. I was laughing, I was cringing and I knew from that moment that this show was going to be one of my favorites.

Here are some reasons why "Toddlers and Tiaras" is my guilty pleasure.

1. The pageant moms (and dads).

Some of the parents do get on my nerves because some do go too far when it comes to pushing their dreams onto their children. However, most of them are just so amusing. It is so obvious most of these kids couldn't care less that they are in a $4,000 dress, but the parents are so invested into it and it makes the show 10 times more entertaining.

Seeing grown adults do their child's routine is the greatest thing ever.

2. The horrifying yet hilarious routines.

The routines these kids do are so cringe-worthy, yet they're so hilarious at the same time. I don't know if I should laugh or be angry that someone actually choreographed the routine. Most of the time, I just end up laughing and shaking my head at the same time.

Side note: Even though no child should be dancing like this, it is still my favorite GIF, LOL.

3. It makes me appreciate the fact I don't have a crazy mom.

Even though some of the moms are quite funny, the majority of them are quite obnoxious. I mean come on, tanning an African American child? Even if she's bi-racial, is it really necessary? So every time I watch this crazy show, I thank god my mom is nowhere near as crazy as the ones shown on the show.

4. The kids are just flat out funny.

At the end of the day, these kids are just kids and they say the darnest things. While the parents, coaches and pageant judges are funny, the kids on the show are what make me keep watching this show on repeat. I honestly can relate to some of these baby beauty queens.

Which is something I never thought I would say.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
